Hasbro Marvel Legends Wave 4
March 5, 2008This particular wave was supposed to come out this month. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your stand on the whole thing), Hasbro wasn’t satisfied with how their Astonishing Beat came out, so they’re delaying the whole line to a mid-april release.
The build-a-figure is Nemesis, also known as Holocaust. He’s the son of Apocalypse and he played a vital role in the alternate timeline of Age of Apocalypse. A little bit of trivia I picked up from his wki page- apparently, his name was changed to Nemesis after pressure from Jewish groups. Definitely, it’s offensive to have a big molten radioactive guy named Holocaust because clearly, Hitler had two body guards that looked exactly like that.
The figures from the line are as follows:
Black Bolt (Blackagar Boltagon)- Leader of inhumans.
Now, the sculpt looks really nice, and the texturing looks very realistic. I doubt that the actual figure would look anything like the prototype, but if it’s anything like this, it’s something to look forward to. I like this wing things, they seem to be made out of cloth. And see, he’s even doing that "Live long and prosper" thing. Well, he does live on the moon.
Nova (Richard Rider) - Keeper of Worldmind
Now that he’s got the Worldmind inside him, he’s got beefed up powers. He’s got a supercomputer inside his brain. How cool is that? It’s like he’s a Tony Stark on cosmic steroids.
It’s interesting to note that his costume is the classic one, not the Xandarian Worldmind produced one, which is definitely the cooler one to me. I’ve read in other previews that the prefer this classic costume over the new metallic one. Can’t say I agree.
I doubt the paint job of the figures are going to be as shiny as this one, but it’s nice to hope, is it not? The ball joints on his thighs really stand out a lot, and that kinda makes him look like a puppet with really loose underpants. Hope they fix that.
Tigra (Greer Grant)- Former avenger
In the comics, Tigra’s been getting so much grief. From getting pwnd by Cap as he outed her as the spy to getting her ass handed to her by The Hood and his boys. It’s nice to see Tigra get some Marvel Legends treatment.
Her body sculpt reminds me a lot of the She-Hulk figure, which makes me think that it might be just as difficult to stand. But hey, can’t get any better than those for plastic boobage. The tail looks like it’s all bendy, as if made with soft plastic with a bendable piece of something inside to act as its skeleton, similar to ML Galactus Series’ Night Crawler.
For figures with long hair such as this one, the main problem is the head movement. I don’t think we can get much head movement from our Tigras.
The paint job there is fantastic. I hope it comes out just as nice for mass production.
Punisher (Frank Castle) - Crazy anti-hero mo-fo, waging his war against crime
Here we have Tim Bradstreet’s Punisher. I’ve always been a fan of this version of Frank and a very big fan of Bradstreet’s art.
Frankie boy here looks pretty good, I must say. The sculpt of his body looks pretty standard, but very detailed. What really impresses me about this figure is the detailed sculpt of this pants and boots. I hope they come out looking just as good in the mass produced figures.
I hope they pack him with more than one gun, though. It looks like his other hand is capable of holding another gun.
Punisher comes out with a variant- the skull paint camo on his face one. I loved that costume in THQ’s 2005 Punisher game, wherein Tom Jane did a better job than the actual movie.
Daredevil (Matt Murdock)
Ah, yes, DD himself. This is the figure I’m really really really looking forward to. Although his outfit here is the classic yellow one, he’ll be coming out with the red costume variant, which I SWEAR I WILL HUNT TILL THE ENDS OF THE EARTH!
God, this is just one gorgeous figure. There are no words. I hope the paint job in the prototype is just as good as the retail versions. Thing is, though, he’s a very plain looking character, so there’s realy no way to spice him up more than this. And that’s good- less is more.
One thing I hope comes out with the figure- his billy clubs. No, not a pair of nunchucks like Moon Knight or the Face-off version. Two separate billy clubs, and please let htem be red for his variant costume.
Beast (Hank McCoy) - Lovable genius blue fuzz ball of the X-Men
Easily one of my favorite characters from the X-verse, this is the version of him that has really endeared him to me. So I’m definitely picking this one up if I can, though Hank here was the cause of the whole delay. That’s okay, because it’ll make him better than it was gonna be. Rumors are that they’ll replace Beast with a Hydra soldier from the Hasbro Wave 3. Please, Hasbro, NO!
His fingers here aren’t articulated, it seems, but I really wish they were. He’s not supposed to hold anything, so I guess it’s okay to have his fingers all moving and whatnot.
The fur on the sculpt looks great, but I hope the paintjob isn’t flat. A little wash and a little splash detail here and there won’t hurt, Hasbro. Lookithim! He’s adorable.
When the figures do get released, I’ll purchase the figures I like and I’ll post a review here, so you can bask in more of my misinformed opinions. YAY!
