Comicology’s Incredible Hulk (the movie) News and Unwanted Opinions

March 13, 2008

As most of you probably kow, this is being directed by Louis Leterrier. He’s the guy who brought us The Transporter, The Transporter 2 and Danny The Dog, which was released here as Unleashed. What do those three films have in common? Tons of action- tons and tons of over-the-top, ridiculous action. Those movies even gave guys who suspend belief to a point where they can explain why Batman always wins a moment of "what the fuck was that?"

Are we hoping to see a lot of that? Yes. Yes, we are. What disappointed a lot of people in Ang Lee’s take on Emo!Hulk was the lack of over-the-top DESTRUCTION.

I kinda liked the look on Ang Lee’s Hulk. But the new Hulk looks absolutely brutal and hulk-like, and it is magnificent. But then again, I didn’t see it all that clearly. Let’s just hope that they improve on the already fantastic Hulk from 2003.

When news came out of Norton being The Hulk, millions of fanboys and fangirls screamed in joy and abject terror. Norton’s the kind of guy who turns shit into gold. He’s the man with the golden touch; hell, I fucking liked Death to Smoochy. But he just doesn’t feel right as Bruce Banner.

See, Bruce Banner should look frail and weak, with purple lab pants. Edward Norton is built like a Nazi MMA fighter. Though I’m sure his acting skillz can pull it off, I just can’t say he’s the best natural fit to Bruce Banner. Maybe we could cast Screech from Saved by the Bell.

The Abomination looks fantastic in the trailer. In the comics, he looks sort of reptilian, and they pulled it off quite well there. Comicology is looking forward to seeing some Monster Rumble Smackdown, baby!

The bit of news that we gathered from a reliable source says that Ed Norton is fighting Marvel over the final cut of this  $150++ million movie. Ed Norton has been known to be very picky and meticulous about the final cuts of his movies, which is probably why they all turn out to be fantastic.

Ed came onto the project with the stipulation that he has some say on the script and the final cut of the project, so I guess he’s just exercising his right. As dicussions get heated, Marvel and Ed’s camp hope to reach an amicable solution.

Thing is, the more effort they put into this, the better it’ll come out for the fans, so no matter who loses, we win. The movie’s set to be released this June 13 in the US.

I think Ed Norton’s a perfect fit to play Banner. He’s not entirely new to the “monster-within” role. He was brilliant in his role as a psychotic catholic choir boy in Primal Fear… another is his brilliant performance in the relatively more recent Fight Club.

@comicbookgeek

I know he can pull it off. If there’s one guy who can, it’d definitely be Ed Norton. I’m just saying he doesn’t quite look the bit. But I’m happy he’s on board for it.

Decent cast indeed, but the production quality seems rushed and Made-For-TV-ish (note the CG in the scene where Bruce falls off the helicopter).

Still excited as hell, though.
