Batman to Die?!
March 14, 2008Grant Morrison has been known to have gone crazy a few years ago, but he’s really gone off the deep end this time.
Batman 676
On sale come April 30, Batman R.I.P. has sent dozens of rumours rippling through the Internet, creating a buzz worthy of such what promises to be a monumental event. Will it top Superman’s death? Probably not, but still, it’s something to keep an eye on.
Are they killing off Bruce Wayne or is he just giving up his mantle? I’ve heard people say that Dick Grayson will take over Batman’s title, and Tim becomes the new Nightwing, and Damien becomes the new Robin. But I’d say that’s wishful thinking, at best.
Personally, I wouldn’t mind if they do kill Bats, and have Dick carry the load Bruce has carried all these years. If Damien does take up the Robin mantle, I think that would make a good dynamic between him and Dick. There will be a lot of new and interesting storylines that’ll come out of this and this will be something to watch.
I’m certain they’ll bring Bruce back in one way or another. If not soon, then I’m sure there’s just another Bruce fanboy out there who’ll get a job at DC to write Batman, and he’d bring him back. The question isn’t if they’ll bring him back, it’s just a matter of when and how.
To learn more about it, I suggest you check out IGN’s interview with Grant Morrison right here.
Written by Grant Morrison, internal art and variant covers by Tony Daniel and Sandu Florea, and regular cover by Alex "The Legend" Ross.

As am I. It will be very interesting to see the ripple effect this will have throughout the DC universe.
Posted by comicology at March 15, 2008, 12:41 pmPfffffffft. This is why I stopped reading Amerikanski comiks. Al these fake events that never lead anywhere. Can you feel any ripples for the “death” of superman today? I think not.

Well, you felt it when it was new, sort of. Like, having four (or was it five?) supermen around, which was pretty cool.
You gotta admit, though, Cap’s death is still a pretty big thing in the Marvel Universe. And like that, DC will have something to write about for a whole year.
Posted by comicology at March 16, 2008, 6:14 pmI don’t think Bruce will literally die.
I read in a June Batman solicitation that (I’m paraphrasing Bruce Wayne will become “deranged and dissociated, wandering homeless in the alleys of Gotham City”
I am absolutely on board with RIP. Way to shake things up Mr. Morrison.

Actually, I feel a bit disappointed. I mean, wouldn’t it be cool to kill off Bruce for a little bit?
But yeah, I’m totally with you on that one. I just jumped into the RIP bandwagon.
Thanks for the comment!
