Fifteen Face Rockingest Comic Book Movies of ALL TIME!

April 29, 2008

If you haven’t heard of it yet, Face Rockery, Cinemabuzz and Comicology have scoured the globe for the best comic book movies of all time. It was a long and tedious journey, but as the fates would have it, we have completed our task! We had to cut the list down to fifteen, otherwise, all the movies would get into the list. It’s divided into three parts. Part one was up at Cinemabuzz, and you can read it here

img244/7155/facerocklz4.gif

Wolverine Claw Fix

April 25, 2008

When you buy a carded Wolverine from any series, from any manufacturer, you will see that his claws are flimsy-ass plastic versions of their supposedly adamantium originals. And when they’re packed wrong, which they are almost 100% of the time, his claws are all sticking together or pointing somewhere they shouldn’t be and they just look really stupid. Wolverine ends up looking like a mentally challenged sexual deviant.

Here at Comicology, we’d like to share one of the techniques we’ve picked up off the Internet and claim it as our own to make us look a dozen times more knowledgable than we really are. It’s really easy, and you can use things you can find in any house.

img181/6691/clawfixym8.jpg

This is a simple solution to something that fills a lot of collectors with frustration. The Wolverine Claw fix can be used for any plastic part that isn’t pointing the way you want it to, including, but not limited to other character’s claws, swords, staffs, pointy horn things, leg joints, etc. etc.

ETC Movies, particularly Iron Man, baby!

April 23, 2008

Guess who got tickets to the ETC blocked screening of Iron Man? That’s right! ME! Bwa-haha-haha-haha! Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to tell you how awesome it was after I see it. I’ll even take pictures of everyone who got in who isn’t you, and I’ll make sure to wave whatever freebies I might get that night around.

Let me tell you how you can get a hold of something similar in the future. And let it be known that Comicology cares for you.

img167/2372/etcco7.jpg

If you want to be updated with the latest ETC movie screenings, and get the chance to win invites to their movie premieres, like the awesome people at  Comicology and Cinemabuzz, here’s what you gotta do.

Any retarded monkey with a cellphone can do this, it’s that easy. Just text ETC <space> MOVIES <space>ON and send it to 2600. Does it have to be in upper case letters? No, but it looks cooler like that. Each text costs P2.50. For more info, check out their site by clicking right here.

This is open to all Philippine-based texters. Unless you’re from whichever country, and you decide to purchase a sim card from here and decide to text in. That’d be cool, too. What’s even cooler than that is that ETC is now on free tv. Just check out Sky Cable (Ch. 16), Dream Satellite (Ch. 27), Destiny Cable (Ch. 30), and Cablelink (Ch. 48).

If you do win tickets to premieres, you get treated to an undoubtedly good movie, and you may even get the chance to rub elbows with the media elite. No, I don’t mean us. But we’ll likely be there, too.

Comic Book Reviews and Some Out of Contest Goodies

April 22, 2008

This week, we review Amazing Spider-Man 556, Captain American 37 and Iron Man 28. All these titles are gaining a lot of steam, and they show no sign of stopping just yet. Well, maybe except Spider-Man because Zeb Wells won’t be handling it next month.

Our rating system for this week will be, in the spirit of the upcoming Iron Man movie, Iron Man heads from the former High-G armor. Five out of five helmets means the comic book is fantastically drawn, masterfully written and was thoroughly enjoyable. Zero helmets, which won’t be the case this week, is when the comic is an abberation of science and art and should be burned.

img99/2715/fiveiy0uk8.jpg

For those who haven’t seen my past reviews, I usually employ a ratings system like this. I’m particularly proud of last week, using Brian Michael Bendis’ head.

Now, onto my reviews (because I like to think my opinions matter.)

Marvel Monkeys, Stan Lee and Other Tidbits of News

April 21, 2008

No, wait, wait, Marvel Apes. (I still say Marvel Monkeys roles off the tongue better.) When I first saw these on the solicits, I didn’t know what to think. It was all one big "what the fuck…?," as memories of Spider-Pig and Peter Porker found their way into my brain.

img74/5179/marvelapespw6.jpg

So, it seems that this is a story of super-powerful, super-intelligent apes. However, I doubt we’d see the Statue of Liberty in ruins, because that’d be a total rip-off.

Marvel Legends Two-Pack New Releases!

April 19, 2008

With the news that Hasbro Marvel Legends Wave 4 line-up has been cancelled by the manufacturer, Hasbro did a 180 and introduced their new two-packs to appease their rioting fans. Well, maybe just me, but still, I wanted that red DD figure.

With me, this close to renouncing my faith in Hasbro, they suddenly opened up a pandora’s box of Marvel action figure goodness by showing them off at the New York Comic Con 08. The figures they showed are amazing pieces of plastic, indeed. Adding to the Ronin/Elektra and Ult. Cap/ Ult. Nick Fury line-up are three more 2-packs. They said that they’d have a total of eight two-packs to be released this Fall. Three of them have yet to be revealed.

Mortal Kombat VS DC Universe! Wait… what the hell?!

April 18, 2008

What is this? A really late April Fools joke? But hey, you’ve heard it from each and every major comic book and video game news outlet, it’s apparently confirmed. I don’t know if I wanna start dancing the "I finally get to fucking kill Superman" jig or cry like someone just stole my dignity, because it sort of feels like it.

The Incredible Hulk Poster is like which Comic Book Cover?

April 17, 2008

A few weeks ago, cinemabuzz brought the poster of the new Hulk movie to my attention, and it definitely is a good movie poster.

img237/2033/hulkposterdx2hc6.jpg

It’s a great poster, which shows a lot about Banner’s internal struggle (how artistic of me), but it really reminded me of a comic book cover I’d seen before. So, my initial reaction was "Oh, awesome, they pay homage to an old Hulk cover." But it turns out, it wasn’t an homage to an old Hulk cover, but rather a tribute to another character’s comic cover.

Can you guess what it is?

Interview with Cosplayer Extraordinaire, Fatima Camiloza!

April 16, 2008

Last we saw of Fatima Camiloza here on Comicology, she was in her Chun-li costume over at Tagcom 2. We all instantly knew that bringing her around these parts again would boost readership and give us serious bragging rights. So, through my great detective work (online stalking), I was able to get an interview with her. So, read on, people, and hear what she’s got to say about cosplaying, which comic book character she thinks she could pull off, and if she’s got any stalkers!

Iron Man Movie Toys!

April 13, 2008

Yesterday, April 12, 2008, saw the launch of the Iron Man movie toy selection over at Toy Kingdom at Megamall, Mandaluyong City. Unfortuantely, because I’m a lazy son of a bitch, I didn’t attend. Too bad, too, because there were prizes and goodies and stuff.

For every P500 purchase, you get a poster from Hasbro. It was a pretty sweet poster, too. Although I don’t collect movie franchise figures, even for Spider-Man or Batman Begins, the Iron Man figures and toys were still pretty damn cool. If you’re a big Iron Man fan, though, and you’ve a collection of Iron Man stuff, some of these toys might be must-have.

Comicology Face-off: The Golden Avenger VS The Dark Knight

April 11, 2008

For decades, fanboys and fangirls have argued about this epic match. Today, we once again examine the limitless possibilities of this bout, and hopefully, we piss a few fanboys off.

On the surface, both men are extremely successful captains of industry, dealing in technology. Both have been known to be playboys, having women jump into their lavish cars, waking up in their opulent quarters. Both men are philanthropic billionaires who could live the rest of their lives in the lap of luxury. However, it goes deeper than that. Both men have a strong sense of justice, and believes in doing everything necessary for the greater good. They are two men with bottled up demons (one more literally than the other, though), struggling in their world of heroes and villians. These two men have brains that can out-think almost anyone, making their technology and cunning their most devastating assets.

However deep the similarities, it’s time to step up. The time for words has long since passed. Now is the time for ASSKICKERY!

We’ll do it differently on Comicology, though. We’ll examine their battle on different fronts of their lives: as businessmen, as Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne, and as the Golden Avenger and the Dark Knight.

Danny Rand waves goodbye to Ed Brubaker, Matt Fraction and David Aja

April 9, 2008

As a lot of probably already know, the trio that turned the former B-lister superhero, Iron Fist, into one of today’s most beloved and popular characters is leaving the book after Immortal Iron Fist #16. Furthermore, a whole lot of us probably also know that some dudes Duane Swiercynski and Travel Foreman  will take the helm of Iron Fist as writer and artist, respectively. I haven’t even heard of Swiercynski before. How does one even pronounce that?!

img139/9972/519ironfist001hz3.jpg

I have loved Immortal Iron Fist from the very start of their run. Bru’s run on Daredevil made me his bitch. Matt’s run here made me his bitch. Aja’s work on Iron Fist can easily be qualified as some of my favorite panels in my entire history of being a geek..

Amazing Spider-Man #555 and Secret Invasion #1 reviews!

April 8, 2008

Let’s start with Amazing Spider-Man 555, because this was very pleasantly surprising. Just when I was contemplating of dropping Amazing Spider-Man from my pull list, because, quite frankly, it was getting boring with rehashed, repetitive shit, they pull out a miracle out of their asses.

img379/7319/asm555kj1.jpg

Amazing Spider-Man 555

Amazing Spider-Man 555 by Zeb Wells and Chris Bachalo is what Brand New Day should be. It should be fun, and should be entertaining, just like the good old days that Joe Q. wanted to recapture. Spidey’s internalization were fun and light-hearted, yet it shows that the humor is just to ease how sucky the situation is. They weren’t found on the classic thought balloons either, but rather those narration boxes, which, quite frankly, I like better than the cheesy thought balloons.

Leinil Yu, Carlos Pagulayan, Mico Suayan, Jeffrey Huet and Harvey Tolibao at Druid’s Keep!

April 6, 2008

Last April 5, 2008 at Druid’s Keep, Marvel artists from the Philippines gathered to sign comic books and sketch for the fanboys. And what a day it was for the ones who went there to see their idols. Nay, not idols, their gods.

img137/6753/signing2ly9.jpg

Leinil “I Know Skrulls” Yu, holding a copy of New Avengers, and in the background, Mr. Felix Cua, owner of Druid’s Keep

The event was mainly considered to be Leinil’s, as his was the name most heavily advertised and it coincided with the release of the highly anticipated Secret Invasion # 1 (which was fucking amazing, by the way). The attendance and participation of his fellow artists just made it that much more awesome. That day was dipped in fucking awesomesauce.

I got there pretty early, at around 2:30PM, and I was just there with the other geeks. Man, the air was thick with geek fanboy soup, and it was difficult to breathe. Imagine the wheezing the other nerds must’ve done. That really didn’t stop any of us from enjoying the miracle of comics for bringing normally anti-social fuckers together in a very social event.

Manga Corner: Children Can’t Choose Their Parents by Meicdon13

April 5, 2008

Children Can’t Choose Their Parents is an eight-page oneshot manga by Mihara Mitsukazu. Simply put, it’s about a boy, Mika, and his pet chicken. To be a little bit clearer, it’s about Mika, his chicken, and their relationship. To be crude, it’s about Mika fucking his chicken.

img218/3505/chickensexzn2dn2.png

We start the manga with Mika and Fabian, the chicken, in bed. Mika’s thinking about how he’ll tell his best friend, Daren, about his new girlfriend. This is the only scene in the entire thing where we see Mika having sex with Fabian. Thankfully–or not, depending whether you’re into that sort of thing or not–it’s not explicit. The best you can see is Mika’s naked torso and Fabian’s wings.

Daren is initially happy for his friend but understandably freaks out when introduced to Fabian. To quote him, "That’s a friggin’ hen! It belongs on the dining table, for Pete’s sake!" To which Mika replies, "Don’t insult my girlfriend!" Daren uneasily accepts Mika’s love for Fabian as a hobby and drops it.
