Who Wants to be a Superhero Winner!
April 2, 2008Who doesn’t love this show, huh? It’s got everything a show should have- Stan Lee, grown men and women in tights, calling each other codenames, challenges, drama, intruige, Stan Lee, villians, and Stan "The Man" Lee.
For the uninitiated, Who Wants to be a Superhero is a reality show hosted by Stan "Father of Modern Mythology" Lee. Contestants take on superhero identities (this, every comic book fan has done so in the comfort of their own homes) and must act superheroic to impress Stan Lee. Every episode, they get rid of one superhero. The ones deemed unworthy are usually those who are rude, reveal too much information about their identity, hurt other people’s feelings, don’t show initiative- generally, unsuperhero-y stuff.
The winner gets to be immortalized as a comicbook character in his/her own graphic novel. This is the wet dream
Now, I don’t know how this airs for everyone else on the planet, but I just saw the finale of this last night. And the results, I agree with them wholeheartedly, though I wouldn’t mind if another contestant had won.
This season’s winner is the guy I had my money on since the beginning, The Defuser.
This guy’s a cop, a real unsung hero. His real name is Jarret Crippen from Austin Texas. I just endangered all your lives by telling you who he really is. He uses non-lethal weaponry to take down bad guys. He functions at 110%! That’s not really… much. Just 10% more, what the fuck?
He won a big-ass HDTV, his own mini-TV movie and his own action figure. Lucky son of a bitch.
I could’ve gone either way with Hyper-Strike, as he’s fucking awesome.
This guy can do backflips, high kicks and kip ups. I guess agile superheroes just have a special place in my geeky heart. Hyper-Strike can focus his chi much like Iron Fist. He has super speed, agility and strength. Also, quite disgustingly, can use his sweat as a weapon.
So far, my favorites have been Feedback, Major Victory, Defuser and Hyper-Strike. Can you imagine a superhero team of these guys?
Defuser would be the team leader- sort of like their Captain America, combined with Iron Man. He’ll be the hard-assed shot caller, who always makes the tough decisions.
Major Victory would be their muscle- Sentry to the Avengers or Thing to the Fantastic Four. However, he’ll also be the comic relief, he was really funny during the first season. He’ll be the witty strong guy, and if you’ll notice, that’s sort of rare.
Feedback will be the young superhero, just learning the potential of his powers. He’s a rookie, but he’ll do anything it takes to prove he belongs to the team. Think Jubilee, in the early years. Or even Simon Williams.
Hyper-Strike is the zen of the team. He’s the moral compass by which the team makes their decisions. He’ll be the compassionate fighter, never willing to go further than what’s necessary. Think maybe Jay Garrick.
I’m looking forward to the next season and to the special release of Defuser’s mini-movie. It’s going to be Defuser-rific!
