The Incredible Hulk Poster is like which Comic Book Cover?
April 17, 2008A few weeks ago, cinemabuzz brought the poster of the new Hulk movie to my attention, and it definitely is a good movie poster.
It’s a great poster, which shows a lot about Banner’s internal struggle (how artistic of me), but it really reminded me of a comic book cover I’d seen before. So, my initial reaction was "Oh, awesome, they pay homage to an old Hulk cover." But it turns out, it wasn’t an homage to an old Hulk cover, but rather a tribute to another character’s comic cover.
Can you guess what it is?
Amazing Spider-Man 50!
I haven’t read anything online about why they’re similar, so if you know of any site that has the scoop, I’d be grateful for a heads up.
But from what I can gather, it can’t be coincidental. There are just too many similarities. I mean, look at it:
-Spider-Man and Hulk both have their backs turned, both facing to their right.
-Peter Parker and Bruce Banner are both walking away, with their heads looking down.
-Pete and Bruce are about the same scale in contrast to their superhero counterparts.
-There’s a strange light eminating from both Spidey’s and Hulk’s crotchal area.
See? There are just too many coincidences. What I wonder is why, if they really did use that cover. I mean, there are a lot of iconic Hulk covers that would work just as well, aren’t there? There’s The Incredible Hulk 1, and everyone recognizes that, for sure.
Also, Hulk 102, though it’s a lot less popularize. I mean, popular. (Inside joke. Don’t mind my retardation)-
Also, a friend of mine told me that it resembled yet another poster from a similarly iconic movie.
Yeah, but that probably has nothing to do with it.

Darn tootin’ I’m right.
@avatar
Well, not a direct copy, but it could have been just some freaky coincidence.
Posted by comicology at April 18, 2008, 2:25 amIt’s definitely intentional. After all, Marvel funded the movie. You’d think at least one person working for both the company and/or the movie would notice if it weren’t.
Also, “a few weeks ago?” Dude, that was two days ago. Are you drugs?
Posted by Coco at April 18, 2008, 9:54 amDude, somebody else noticed, but you’re prolly the only one who’s been quite vocal about it.

It’s an awesome homage, if you ask me.
Posted by Ade at April 18, 2008, 11:44 amgood eye!
i think they chose that cover because they didn’t want to show the hulk yet.

Did I say I was the only one who noticed? Did you enjoy going through great lengths to prove to me that I was the only one who noticed? Great job.

Thanks, buddy. Though, apparently, there were a lot of others who noticed.

Unless I read something from the producer or whatnot that they really paid homage to the cover, I’d say it’s a really creepy coincidence, although it is highly unlikely.
And yes, I’m on drugs. Lots and lots of drugs.
Posted by comicology at April 18, 2008, 11:54 pmNow that you’ve mentioned it, its from Spider-Man. Im right!
Cool man.
