Comicology Face-Off! The Emerald Archer VS The Other Guy in Purple!
May 28, 2008Oliver Queen VS Clint Barton! Green Arrow VS Hawkeye! Moustachioed Robin Hood Look-Alike VS Douchebag in Purple with an Inferiority Complex! This is a matchup we see all the time, and why not? These guys are practically perfectly matched… or are they?
Here at Comicology, we’ll examine different facets of their existence to see how they measure up with each other.
Both archers are are the best in their respective universes- unparalleled, unrivalled, unmatched! Both used employ trick arrows, but now are done with that bullshit and have moved on to adding traditional arrows to their already impressive arsenal. This way, they both leave a good ole’ fashioned hole in the body.
They were both trained to the highest degree of combat, have faced great odds, and both have come out of it alive (well, most of the time).
But now, the time for words has long since passed. Now is the time for ASSKICKERY!
Comic Book Reviews and Cover of the Week!
May 26, 2008My weekly stack has not increased as I’m still poor, but I will do my best to review these four titles. This week, I’m using five old school Luke Cages as the gauge of comic book awesomeness.
Again, after the reviews, we have our cover of the week. The cover of the week that means absolutely nothing except to me. Ah, such is life.
Anyway, this week, we’re reviewin Iron Man: Director of SHIELD #29, with a four-issue replacement writer, Captain America #38, Might Avengers #14 and Amazing Spider-Man #560!
Iron Man Video Game Review (PC port)
May 24, 2008The game has been out for a couple weeks now, and we’ve all read the reviews. A lot of people say that there were a lot of things that would’ve been done better, and that the game was generally nothing special. Surprisingly, most of these reviews come from most systems- PS3, Xbox 360, PS2, and the PSP. I come to you now with a review of the PC version. Maybe with a mouse, it’d be easier to control, yeah?
Comicology Character Spot-Light: THE SENTRY!
May 23, 2008So, if you were a superhero, and you had the power of A MILLION EXPLODING SUNS, how messed up do you think you would be? What costume would you wear? What girly color would it be? What would would you look like. I imagine, something like this-
That’s right; you’d be Mr. Robert Reynolds, The Sentry, Marvel’s sidewinding answer to Superman!
Messiah CompleX Impressions! She has come to save mutantkind!
May 20, 2008I know Messiah Complex has been over for a few months now, but I just bought the HC and was just able to read it last night. I couldn’t afford buying all those comics, and having all those titles piece together this modern classic. So, instead, I just bought an extremely overpriced hardcover. Was it worth it?
Action Figures for Sale!
May 19, 2008Since my financial situation has already hit a red light. And sadly, I have to let go of some of my figures. I have bills to pay, you see. And I have to eat. No, seriously.
If you’re interested in my wares, please have a look-see within! Please help me eat.
Comic Book Reviews and Cover of the Week!
May 18, 2008The past couple weeks’ comics had its share of disappointments, more so than usual. Although, there were some titles that really just blew me away. This is how it goes in this universe anyway, can’t always have our cake and eat it.
The reason why I don’t review more titles is that I’m broke. I seriously need monies. I.ph? Monies, please?
This week’s rating system will be the Spider-Man Action Figure from the box set. All five undarkened Spider-Men is a perfect score. The less of Spidey we see, the worse the comic is.
These guys really deserve an on-going comic series!
May 16, 2008HTML Source EditorWord wrap
Throughout the entire history of everything, comic books have given us icons and legends and celebrities and superstars. Isn’t it high time that we returned the favor to some considerably awesome characters that may or may not have been forgotten, but seriously deserve a comic book series?
The answer to that is yes. Yes, it is high time.
Awesome Superhero Facial Hair
May 13, 2008Because of the nature of comic book characters, being drawn by different very talented people with very different styles, a character will look different from other incarnations. Sometimes, from a single artist, everyone’s faces look the same, and you can only tell the different from their costumes or the color of their clothes.
Without having them wear their costumes all the time, what’s the best way to solve that predicament? There are a number of ways- accessories like Nick Fury’s eye patch, hair color, scars like Psylocke’s, or tattoos. But by far, my favorite distinguishing trademark is facial hair. Why? Because it’s awesome on the right people.
Facial hair works for some people, and it doesn’t for others. Would you like to see a Captain America who looks like a hobo? Well, yeah, I guess some of you would. On the right people, though, they avoid looking like a terrorist or a 1980s porn star.
BND Symbiotes!
May 12, 2008Last week, IGN reported on a new villian to his the Spidey this August. The arc "New Ways to Die" seems to be the most hyped story since BND began. It will see the birth of the Anti-Venom. I’ve heard rants and raves about this, but I don’t know where to position myself just yet. I’ve always liked Venom, but I kinda lost interest when the symbiote took over Mac Gargan.
However, in New Ways to Die, they’ve put forward a few questions that got me interested. Apparently, the story takes off after Eddie Brock’s ordeal in Sensational Spider-Man, but we don’t exactly know what his condition is, post OMD- what exactly did the deal with Mephisto do with Eddie? Is Eddie Brock the Anti-Venom or will he be back to his old ways of murder, torture and really bad KISS impersonations? And how does Mac Gargan figure in all of this?
In-depth Interview with Ernest Hernandez of Pinoy Statue Forums
May 11, 2008This is a fantastic time to be a comic book fan because of the multitude of comic related mediums. Being a fan lets you geek out over movies, get obsessed with animated series, or even go broke with action figures (it’s an addiction, goddamn it).
And, of course, for the really hardcore collectors, you have the statues. Ah, yes, those beautiful pieces of solidified awesome I often see displayed at special interest stores. How I’ve longed to be able to get a hold of one of those beauties. And now, I may get the chance with the help of Pinoy Statue Forums.
There is now a forum that focuses primarily on local statue collectors with a little something something on the side. There’s a lot for collectors and people whose brains are melted off with pure solidified awesome.
Recently, I had the pleasure of interviewing one of the founders of Pinoy Statue Forums. He had a lot to say about the current situation of statue collecting, both locally and internationally, the best places to purchase statues from, magnificent artists and his personal favorites.
ItsJustSomeRandomGuy’s Youtube movies are PURE WIN!
May 8, 2008I want to share with you something I’ve been enjoying for months now. It all started when I was on youtube, searching for some Marvel/DC cinematics that I could sink my geeky fat-laden teeth into, when I came across this:
The DC Universe’s Great Return!
May 7, 2008Just in case you didn’t know, DC decided to bring Mr. Barry Allen back. He’s better known as The Flash, the one after Jay Garrick, and before Wally West. After 23 years of death, he’s back. That certainly took a while, huh?
As I’m sure most have you been spoiled already, I will now talk about what I feel about this whole thing.
Iron Man II, Captain America, Thor and Avengers Wishlist!
May 6, 2008With the news that Marvel officially announced Iron Man II, Captain America, Thor and an Avengers movie, the folks behind Comicology got a collective mega geek boner. For those who don’t know, the full article is up at newsarama, but it basically says that Marvel made a shitload of money off geeks like me.
There’s a smidgen of bad news among all the great things in the announcement. Marvel won’t release any self-produced film in 2009, but starting 2010, there’d be tons to look forward to. Iron Man II is set for an April 30, 2010 release, followed by Thor on June 4, 2010. For 2011, Marvel will have an Avengerama with The First Avenger: Captain America on May 6, 2011, then followed by The Avengers on July, 2011.
Technically, Captain America was the First Avenger Recruit, but he wasn’t even a founding member.
While wrapping our minds on how fucking jaw-dropping awesome those films would be, we decided to make a wish list on these movies. These are the things that we think would make these movies of pure, unadulterated asskickery.
Comic Book Reviews! The Secret Invasion Continues!
May 4, 2008This week’s list is, once again, pretty small. This is largely due to the fact that I am poor, practically homeless and the only way I survive is to whore myself out every night at a place called Quezon Circle.
I know that I probably won’t be able to convince anyone to buy these titles, but just so you know, my opinions are totally awesome.
This time around, a perfect score would be five out of five iron fists:
Let’s get started then.
Super Wealthy Superheroes! Richie Rich aint got nuthin’ on them!
May 2, 2008As a kid, I’ve always been fascinated with how superheroes get their funding. Riding out into the night doens’t exactly put food on the table, much less allow one to buy that super fast car you drive or supply those goddamn boomerangs that don’t seem to run out. He probably gets those from China.
Then I found out that there were millionaire superheroes. And as my interest for comics grew, I found out that there were a whole lot of them, each character made use of his/her earthly wealth differently, more often than not employing the money to that whole superheroing thing. Others just had it, and didn’t really do shit with it.
Think Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark are the only moguls? Think again.
Comicology Iron Man Movie Review
May 1, 2008Today, I, along with Cinemabuzz and Fritzified, saw Iron Man during the blocked ETC (thanks, ETC) screening at Glorietta 4, and we joined the universe in a collective fanboy shriek of glee. It’s easy to say that it rocked, but here’s my review to tell you just how much it rocked, and if it could’ve rocked any harder.
I’m going to say what I particularly loved about it, and things that maybe could’ve been done differently, but worked nonetheless.
