Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow Review
September 7, 2008I just indulged myself in a DVD-viewing to which I’ve been looking forward for a couple months now. And I’ve already sat down and tried to gather my toughts about it, and I’m still unsure if I liked it or not.
Like what I said the last time I talked about this DVD, it’s about the kids of the Avengers. The original Avengers were slain and Tony kept the children hidden from the world, training them and raising them. Tony trained them in the use of their powers and told them who their parents were, but never told them who he was.
I liked the feel of history to it, about the past Avengers, that even after a post-apocalyptic event, they still leave a legacy, and I don’t mean the children. It gives the entire movie a sense of importance, of worth, of hell, royalty. There were characters who made surprise appearances, so there’s even more history there. And this added to the lacking “holy shit” moments.
The way these kids played off their history, though, was kind of bordering on too much, that it kinda got cheesy. They even fought against their robo-parents, for fuck’s sake.
You’d think Cap’s kid would be like Cap’s counter-part, right? But no, no one got better treatment than the rest. That provided for much sought-after balance for teams. Well, maybe Hawkeye did, sort of. And Thor’s daughter whose name escapes me at the moment. But it wasn’t done in way that it’d be too obvious, and it’s good to throw elements like that into a movie.
So, the flow and the plot of the movie were great, but how did it play out? Well, like I menioned earlier, there was a lack of holy shit moments. There were a few noteworthy moments, but nothing that really sticks out. I’m a big fan of holy shit moments, and since this didn’t have enough, it kinda put a bad taste in my mouth.
There were some parts of it that kind of dragged on for too long, which made some parts boring, even though necessary. I would even go so far as to say that the movie was anti-climactic. There was no part that made me all excited and go “oooohh, shit, it’s on now, boy!”
It’s not bad. It’s not the greatest animated feature, either. I’d still probably give that to Justice League: New Frontier. Is it worth your $19.99? Yes, definitely. If you want to watch it for Iron Man, well, maybe you can wait until the price goes down a bit.

Defeating an enemy which required pissing off an aged HULK is a holy shit moment but in a bad way.

Yeah, it wasn’t as epic as I thought it’d be. Those are my exact thoughts, actually.
@Steel
Spoileriffic! I thought Iron Man and Hulk would play a larger role. Thing is, if Hulk could take down fucking Ultron, he should’ve done it 10 fucking years ago.

We do not think this film worth $20 or 70 minutes.
We like a lot of kids animation because it is filled with good guys and bad guys and you can sit back and enjoy the fun. However we had a hard time doing that in this case.
We felt as though they crushed on the originals for no other reason than to launch these juvenile wanna-bes.
Anyway, here is our take on it with lots of pics and a few bits if wit if you are interested:

Yeah, I felt like the Iron Man bit could’ve been extended, but then again, it would’ve taken too much away from the focus of the movie.
Imma check out your link, man.

I was hoping for it to be epic. It’s a frigging post-apocalyptic film after all. But damn, the ending and the way they defeated the villain was… anticlimatic.
