8 Bit Avengers

April 26, 2009

Ever since the dawn of commercialized video games, comic book heroes have found themselves given new digital life. Video game creators have found that comic books have been a great resource for video games whether it’s because of their easy marketability or because they’re a treasure chest of estabilshed creative sources. Unfortunately, the early era of video games have always sucked so much ass, they’d smell like sweat and poop out of the box.

Of course, video games have greatly improved since then, especially with X-Men Legends, Ultimate Alliance and the Spider-Man games. Unfortunately, old school games would suck so much ass, they’d smell like sweat and poopoo crumbs. Ever so often, though, you’d come across a masterpiece among the forgettable 8-bit, 16 bit comic book based games. Captain America and the Avengers, the NES port, based off the coin operated, 4 player co-op beat-em-up game.

2009 Eisner Nominees!

April 13, 2009

The Oscars of the comic book industry is upon us yet again! I don’t know exactly who calls it the Oscars of the industry (it could just be me, really) but there’s gotta be some other guy out there who does.

Taken from SDCC website

Anyway, for those who are uninformed, the Eisner Awards recognizes incredible achievements and talent within the comic book industry, usually given out during SDCC. It is named after Will Eisner, the guy who created The Spirit- the movie of which was butchered by Frank Miller. It seems to have started in 1987, after taking over the Jack Kirby awards. Confusing? Details are here.

Wonder Woman DVD Review!

April 9, 2009

Wondah Womaaaaaaaaaaaan!!!

Released last March 3, 2009, Wonder Woman is the latest of the animated direct-to-DVD movies from DC, and the first for a solo Wonder Woman adventure. The hype for it was minimal so not a lot of people were aware that it was even coming out. It was more like a whisper, too, when it came out, instead of a mad dash to the counters when Hulk VS did. So how did it do? Let’s find out.

Directed by Lauren Montgomery, Wonder Woman is an exercise in action of mythological proportions, feminism, humor and minimal clothing. I wanted this to be so good; I tried so hard to like it.

Marvel Super Heroes: What The?

April 1, 2009

Bwaaaahahahahahhahaa!!! I love it! From Marvel.com, they made a whole episode using Marvel Legends figures! It’s hilarious! It’s like a combination of a PG-13 Robot Chicken and ItsJustSomeRandomGuy’s work (which is AWESOME) only with fifteen times the budget and a lot less copyright infringing.

My favorite bits:

When Hank pushes Cyke away and begs not to be shot by the “live a normal life” ray.

Hanky Panky

Frank’s fetish with Wilson Fisk

Hank being called Blue’s Clues
