Major Linkage (TO THE MAX!)

June 29, 2009

As I sat unproductively at my desk this morning, I was bombarded by a barrage of fantastic news, great articles and make-your-own toys, created by my girlfriend. I felt I would be too selfish if I were to not share this with the world.

http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/3978/bannernym.jpg

First off, we have Comicbookmovie’s Exclusive run-through of the details regarding DC’s direct-to-DVD animated feature, Superman/Batman: Public Enemies. The article is comprised of Voices From Krypton’s interview with Jeph Loeb, Tim Daly, Clancy Brown, Stan Berkowitz, Gregory Noveck and many more. If you’re anything like me, you’re shaking in your booties, excited for this and the Green Lantern feature that any information you get is gold.

Next up, we have an article born of the genius Gerry Alanguilans pen. Well, keyboard. In his blog, he talks about The Difficulty of Superheroes in the Philippines.

For those who are unfamiliar with Gerry A., you should check out his site and his youtube videos. The man’s a genius. I should really feature him here. Maybe when we both have the time. Here, lemme give you a quick intro. He is a Filipino comic book writer and artist. He wrote and drew comics like Wasted and ELMER, among others. He also inks for Marvel and DC, doing Iron Man, Fantastic Four, X-Men, X-Force, and a lot of others. He has worked with Leinil Francis Yu and Whilce Protacio.

And last, by not certainly not the least by any stretch of the imagination, I present to you, the “poor man’s Mighty Mugg,” created from Paper through print-outs and instructions from Paper Inside. The girlfriend created a Captain America one:

Toy Collecting World Buzzing

June 24, 2009

We’ve seen the tons and tons and tons of Transformers toys piling up inside the toy stores, and kids, collectors and people with learning disabilities are all enjoying the abundance of transforming action figure goodness. Because of the high supply, prices are sure to drop and vulture-like scoundrels come in for the kill. Not for all figures, though. For sure, there’ll be one or two figs that everyone will want immediately. That’s kinda the way I feel about all the upcoming releases from Hasbro.

We’ve got the Marvel Universe line, which I’m currently into, as I’m slowly being more selective of the ML figs that I collect. Really, I only want a Human Torch and Sue Richards ML and I’ll be fine. We also have Marvel Legends announcements! Huzzah!

For the MU line, we’ve got Wave 5, which has a repainted Wave 1 Iron Man to look like the Silver Centurion, Namor (or at least, I thought he’d be in), Guardian and two (YES, TWO!) Spider-Man repaints using the same chubby body and the same goddamn accessory. He was given a black and red costume and a darker, more pastel red and blue color. Why? Because FUCK YOU, that’s why.

Captain America: Reborn (Comicology Contest)

June 19, 2009

Yep, I know what you’re thinking. That’s old news. Hell, Captain America #600 was already released, and on a Monday, no less! But today, I want to show you the little gems here and there hyping up our favorite flag-clad hero. The hype for this thing may not be as strong as his death, but not for the lack of trying on Marvel’s side of things. I guess society just likes hyping death more than life or rebirth, as the case may be.

If you’re a Marvel fan, you probably go to their site regularly. If so, then you’ve probably seen the trailer for Captain America: Reborn, (which ships the first of July) that is told from Sharon Carter’s perspective. If not, here take a gander, in all its HD glory:

Click on the youtube link and watch it in its own browser to give you the full experience. It  also helps to light a couple candles and stand at attention, while singing whatever national anthem you call your own.

Comicology Goes to ToyCon 2009!

June 15, 2009

We’re fresh off the heels of one of the biggest events for geeks, and what a weekend it has been. Actually, no, I wouldn’t know. I was sick Friday and Saturday and decided to leave the crowd the fuck alone and cut the risk of getting A(h1n1) and lots of geek sweat on me. I went Sunday instead, for the sole reason of being able to write about it, because I’m seriously running out of content ideas.

It was a fun event, just like every year. It lacked something for me, though. It seems nothing has changed for a few years now, same forumla. I guess if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. Here’s my take on the whole thing.

Mickey Rourke as Whiplash- First Image

June 10, 2009

Fresh off Mr. Jon Favreau’s tweet:

Click here for a larger image.

First of all, fuck yes Mickey Rourke. I’m really still on the fence about this version of Whiplash. Whiplash has had so many different designs that there really is no one iconic Whiplash. I’d say it’s fairly accurate compared to the concept art. I’m not sure but I thought all men who held the Whiplash name were all American and not Russian.

We’ll have to wait and see before we can judge this whiplash. Hopefully, Jon Favs, RDJ and Mick Rourke nail it.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 Costume Changes

June 5, 2009

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Fusion is the much awaited sequel to the widely popular Marvel Ultimate Alliance, which had a port on the PS2, Xbox, 360, PS3 and PSP. MUA 2 comes out in all current gen consoles and handhelds, but not for the PC, apparently and that makes me a terribly sad panda. Regardless of the fact that I still don’t have a 360 (well, not yet), I am incredibly excited for this game. And really, I would get a 360 just for this game alone.

Besides being the massively graphically updated sequel to my favorite Marvel video game of all time, MUA 2 gives gamers (myself especially) a whole slew of other reasons to get excited over it. For starters, it’s based off one of the more successful and controversial storylines in recent Marvel publication history- Civil War. Because of this alone, both purists and casual fans who appreciate the source material were immediately drawn in.

Their website is fantastic. The marketing is fantastic. Their strategy of revealing one new character at a time makes fans drool with anticipation, hoping that their favorite character would be revealed next. And the graphics, I just can’t say enough good things about the graphics. Well, except… hold on a minute here. There are costume changes?! WTF?!
