Birthday Haul!

07/08/09 marks my 26th pathetic year of existence on this planet. However, on the very same day, my life became a little less empty and a little bit more fulfilled because of this:

Lo and behold, the birthday gift from the girlfriend! What magnificent, wonderous thing could it possibly contain?!

Upon opening the box, I gazed upon the visage of the most beautifully sculpted Daredevil figure I had ever seen!

But wait, what’s this? Seems like the old Rotocast Daredevil is getting jealous!

If looks could kill, there’d be a long, sharp rod going through new ML Icons Daredevil’s skull right about now.

Do not worry, Rotocast Daredevil! You will not be forgotten! Of course not! You’re still my first 12 inch Daredevil, and no one can take that away. Hmm, what is that, Rotocast Daredevil? Where will the new ML Icons Daredevil stay? Oh, I don’t know yet. But I do know he’ll be taking center stage after I do my shelf real estate planning! Bwahahhaha!

This is one beautiful figure. The sculpt is very solid, with great details. Yeah, it’s the typical Hasbro body, but it really works well with Daredevil. The aspect of this figure that stands out for me is his face and mask. It is fucking ferocious. Except the SMC Daredevil from years ago, this is the only Daredevil figure with the scowl that I love on him.

The creases on his costume are sculpted in, and that gives a very authentic feel to his costume.

In terms of articulation, it is almost exactly like the Nemesis Series Daredevil. Hell, even the sculpt is freakishly identical, down to the hands and the position. It has the ball neck, ball jointed shoulders, bicep twist, double jointed elbows, wrist (twist and peg), waist, torso, ball jointed hips, double jointed knees and an ankle articulation. It really looks fantastic.

Paint is pretty simple, but it works. Hasbro doesn’t do wash! However, there is no bleeding of colors, no paint chips whatsoever. The gloves and boots and belt and holster are a lighter shade of red, like the Marvel Knights Daredevil, but it is definitely not as distracting as the orangey hue of the Nemesis Series DD’s boots and gloves and belt and holster. The flesh on the skin looks very fleshy, and not pale zombie-like on the smaller scale figures.

He’s such a photogenic figure, I decided to have a little fun with him! Check it out:

It really is a magnificent figure, but I can only give it a 4.5 out of 5 Yellow Alex Maleev Daredevil.

Why? Look at the billy club. It looks like a fucking SAUSAGE! It’s HUGE! It looks like one of those padded sticks used for training, or a really kinky dildo. It’s just too fucking big and way, way, wwaaayy out of scale. This seems to be a prevalent problem on Daredevil figures. The Nemesis series nunchucks/billy clubs seem to be too short, FO Daredevil has em’ too long, Urban Legends DD looks okay, but has a fat, weird stump at the end of the stick. The best one I’ve seen so far is the one that comes with the Rotocast Daredevil.

Oh, and his billy clubs are supposed to be RED, not fucking WHITE! Goddamn it, Toybiz and Hasbro. Goddamn it.
