Comicology Face Off: Sidekick battle
August 28, 2009The similarities between Dick Grayson and James Buchanan Barnes are astonishing, especially given the fact that they are both currently holding their mentors’ mantles. They’re both great fighters from a young age and both were side kicks to each universe’s premiere martial artists. When they go up against each other, how would they do? Let’s see in this edition of Comicology: Face Off.

This is how we do Face Offs. We take an angle from each character’s life and compare them with one another, then we see who would come out on top based on that particular area.
Childhood:
Bucky was a troubled youth from the 1940’s who had fire in his heart, but needed to get his head on straight. Dick was a naturally gifted althetic kid who was traumatized at his parents’ deaths. Both are orphans. Bucky’s dad was a soldier, Dick’s dad was a circus trapeeze.

BlackMarket EX
August 24, 2009
Hell there, Black Market X.
Looks like another toy/comic collector’s event, only this time, it’ll be like ToyCon without the bells and whistles. It’s a straight up flea market.
You can expect everything from toys, action figures, games, comics, airsoft (I want to get into that so badly), anime stuff (boo), DVDs (probably all Arrrrgghhh Mateys!), trading cards like Magic and Pokemon (since we know the same basic demographic play them- male virgins), and books, which won’t be taxed by the government because reading is fucking evil, like smoking and cancer.
Admission is also very cheap at P20. It’ll be at A. Venue on November 14, 10AM to 9PM. Bring your loved ones.
Check out their website at blackmarketex.com.
Normal Human Wave
August 21, 2009Where would Tony Stark or Bruce Wayne without their Jarvis or Alfred? Where would Matt Murdock be without his business partner and best friend Foggy? Where would Peter Parker be without the fan favorite Mary Jane Watson? Oh, in the abyss that he’s in right fucken’ now. See what happens when we get rid of the normal people in our favorite characters life against whom they contrast?
I say, we don’t give these people enough love. Sure, we’ve got a couple Alfred Pennyworth fans, but is that enough to show our appreciation for the constant in Batman’s life? Nay, I say! NAY! I think these characters, and their fans, deserve more.

For far too long, these characters have been ignored, especially by the toy collecting community. I hereby declare that it is time they get Marvel Legend/ DC Universe treatment! This is what fans (well, probably just me) want, Hasbro and Matel; make it happen.
Planet Hulk Trailer
August 18, 2009I just fucking love it when there are story arcs so good that they are considered classics. Off the top of my head, I can think of Daredevil: Born Again, X-Men: Phoenix Saga, Iron Man: Armor Wars and Iron Man: Demon in a Bottle. I’m sure you guys can think of literally dozens more.
I also fucking love it when particular arcs get their own direct-to-DVD movie. Okay, granted, the only other direct-to-DVD animated movie was DC’s Justice League: New Frontier and Death of Superman (although that one was more of a compressed reimagining than it was its own version), but I believe this is something I plan to really love.
The animated direct-to-disc movie I’m talking about is Planet Hulk, which was originally written by Greg Pak and drawn in part by, if memory serves, our very own Carlos Pagulayan. Here’s the trailer:
I’m interested to see how the story would do in animated format. Though I’m not a big Hulk fan, this direct-to-disc movie is something to look out for.
3.75 Captain America Haul!
August 16, 2009Just yesterday, I was lucky enough to have spotted 3 sets of Secret Wars two-packs with Captain America and Klaw. Those things sold out like twinkies at a fat camp. Okay, so I may have uttered “FUCK YES MOTHER FUCKER” three times when I saw the figures while in the company of two 5 year olds but I don’t think they picked up on my foul language
The package includes one figure of 616 Captain America with his shield, Klaw and Secret Wars#1, a reprint. For P899, this may already be considered cheap because each 3.75″ figure goes for P550. So at P900, you get two figures and a comic book. Not bad.
I only really just wanted the 616 Captain America, so I’m selling off the Klaw with the comic book. Details on that a bit later. Let’s talk about Cap first.

Green Lantern: First Flight Review
August 15, 2009Everyone and their uncannily funky grandmother has written a review of Green Lantern: First Flight, so I don’t intend to go into it in lengthy detail. I do, however, feel like I should write one. I anticipated this direct-to-DVD movie so much when it was announced, I thought it’d knock the ball right out of the park. Unfortunately, it’s a mixed bag of crap and gold.

Let’s start off with what I liked about it first. Oh, and SPOILER WARNING: Do no proceed if hate minor spoilers.
Daredevil and Blackest Night covers = Boneriffic!
August 13, 2009It’s no secret that I am a huge Daredevil fan. The reason I got restarted on collecting comics was Daredevil, back when Bendis was still writing it. Next week, collecting Daredevil will be slightly more expensive from here on out. This is because of the renumbering, starting with Daredevil #500. What changed besides the number? For one thing, the writer- Andy Diggle (I’m excited about this) and the artist- Roberto dela Torre. I’m interested to see what those guys add to the Daredevil mythos. However, apart from that, nothing else changes- just the price.
Some people think it’s a marketing scheme. Captain America, Uncanny X-Men, Hulk and a few other titles did it and their prices went up, too. I’m not exactly fond of this change, but I think it is necessary due to the recession. We have to pony up some dough if we want these titles to continue, yes? Although yeah, they are the best selling titles of Marvel publication, but if the other titles’ sales are going down, these companies need to stay liquid, too.
But Marvel, DC, Dark Horse and other publishers, you have to promise us something, okay? Make sure you guys are churning out comics of outstanding quality. We pay, you deliver. That’s how it works.
This is why I’m pleased with the Daredevil cover:

Comicology Goes to Metro Comic Con
August 10, 2009We’re fresh off the Metro Comic Con weekend and I can see how fucking stoked the organizers were and how pleased they are with the way things turned out. And I couldn’t agree more. I attended on Sunday, August 9, and I had a fucking blast. I had other plans on the previous opening day, and I was told I missed out on a lot, but there’s always next year. Yeah, *wink wink* next year. Before we go to the recap of my experience, let’s start it off with an announcement.
You read it here first. Metro Comic Con will be back on August 14-15, 2010! The event got the attention of a lot of major sponsors because of the great show format and the truly geeky experience, and they promise to be even bigger, louder, and geekier with more stores, artists, prizes and surprises.

Itsjustsomerandomguy-Marvel, DC, hire this guy.
August 9, 2009In the backburner, I’ve got a review of Green Lantern: First Flight being cooked up and my experience at the incredibly successful, and terribly enjoyable Metro Comic Con. However, for now, I would like to direct you to the latest Hi, I’m a Marvel… and I’m a DC by Itsjustsomerandomguy, who, quite honestly, is one of the funniest and most talented people on youtube. I love you, Mr. Itsjustsomerandomguy. I love you.
The guy can write Deadpool. And the word “hilarious” gets thrown around a lot, but this latest vid deserves it. Thumbs up to you, Mr. Itsjustsomerandomguy. Thumbs up.
Super Hero Vids
August 5, 2009Just got a couple videos for you guys and a few reminders. Here’s the Super Hero Squad World Tour. They’re making a cartoon about the toyline, I guess. Kinda makes you wanna buy those extremely overpriced little buggers.

Here’s the video:

Hard-On for Adi Granov
August 4, 2009Because I’m a frustrated graphic artist (I draw fat stick figures), and because I’m mediocre in everything I do except sucking, I feel compelled to look up to a lot of people. This includes, but is not limited to, writers, artists, actors, businessmen, atheletes, wrestlers, entertainers, sex offenders, and exotic dancers. Every now and then, I like to think about those who have created something on this world that is not only enjoyable for me but also super beneficial to humanity, as well.
I was going through some images and I was reminded of how much of a raging boner I had for the Extremis armor designed by Adi Granov. My mind kind of spiralled out of control after that, because it was filled with thoughts of exactly how godlike Ade Granov’s talent really is. Unfortunately, a scale of such magnitude has yet to be devised.

Adi Granov has got to be one of my all time favorite artists. Dare I say that, to me, he’s at Alex Ross level. Djurdjevic and Granov share almost a similar style, but for some reason, Adi’s art is half a notch more appealing to me. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE Marko Djurdjevic. I would give my left nut to have 1/8th of the talent Djurdjevic has. For now, though, I want to focus on Mr. Granov, whose name should be synonymous with perfection and cotton candy.

Guess What’s Happening Right Now
August 1, 2009As I type this, I’m being filmed for Qtube, on QTV. I’m supposed to look like I’m actually writing something, so I’m here writing this entry.
You know, having a camera directly pointed at you is kinda unnerving. And you run out of things to say and/or type really quickly. So, Mr. camera man hovering above me, when do we finish?
Okay, now he’s taking footage of me from underneath. Yeah, it’s kinda freaky. Also, I’m sweating.
This is kind of historical for me, because the only other time I’ll ever be on TV is when I get arrested for rape or something worse. Probably for something worse.
Camera guy just shifted positions and is filming me from behind, which I have to admit is my best side. Yeah, that’s right, Camera guy, film my ass. I know you can’t resist. I don’t blame you. Also, they messed with my figures and I have to repose them later. Dude even dropped Gambit’s cards. I spend about two hours every day fixing that.
Oh, and they spread my comics on bed. I never realized I had that many until they did that. I may be wasting my life with it.
They’re still filming. Comics this time now though.
