Daredevil and Blackest Night covers = Boneriffic!
August 13, 2009It’s no secret that I am a huge Daredevil fan. The reason I got restarted on collecting comics was Daredevil, back when Bendis was still writing it. Next week, collecting Daredevil will be slightly more expensive from here on out. This is because of the renumbering, starting with Daredevil #500. What changed besides the number? For one thing, the writer- Andy Diggle (I’m excited about this) and the artist- Roberto dela Torre. I’m interested to see what those guys add to the Daredevil mythos. However, apart from that, nothing else changes- just the price.
Some people think it’s a marketing scheme. Captain America, Uncanny X-Men, Hulk and a few other titles did it and their prices went up, too. I’m not exactly fond of this change, but I think it is necessary due to the recession. We have to pony up some dough if we want these titles to continue, yes? Although yeah, they are the best selling titles of Marvel publication, but if the other titles’ sales are going down, these companies need to stay liquid, too.
But Marvel, DC, Dark Horse and other publishers, you have to promise us something, okay? Make sure you guys are churning out comics of outstanding quality. We pay, you deliver. That’s how it works.
This is why I’m pleased with the Daredevil cover:

Click the image to see it in its full glory.
I love that so much that the promotional flyer for it, I turned into a poster in my room. It’s got everyone important to the Daredevil mythos, from the past to the present. If you can name all of them, you get an internet no-prize and a cookie.
Here’s a clue: Milla Donovan, Natasha Romanov (Black Widow), Sister Maggie (Matt’s mom), Dakota North (the girl whom I hope Matt ends up with but doesn’t end up killing), Karen Page (Karen is to DD as Gwen is to Spidey), Maya Lopez (Echo),Typhoid Mary, Matt Murdock, Melvin Potter (Gladiator), Bullseye impaling Elektra Natchios, Larry Cranston (Mr. Fear), a young Matt Murdock at the time of his father’s death, yellow outfit Daredevil, Daredevil (with a halo for some reason), Foggy Nelson, Lonnie Thompson Lincoln (Tombstone), “Battlin’” Jack Murdock, Maki Matsumoto (maybe? Lady Bullseye), Leland Owlsley (The Owl), Carlos Lumuerto (Black Tarantula), Wilson Fisk (Kingpin), Daniel Rand (Iron Fist FUCK YES), Luke Cage, Lester (Bullseye), and random Hand ninjas.
Yay, block of text!
There are other variant covers but have yet to be revealed over Marvel.com. I’m looking to pick up those I like once I see them. It retails for $4.99. Daredevil will be priced at $3.99 after that, instead fo the regular $2.99.
Here’s the cover to Daredevil 501-

Mmmmm… Daredevily.
Another arch that I’m really excited for is DC’s Blackest Night. Why? Well, first of all, zombies and because I have latent homosexual tendencies towards Green Lanterns.
Blackest Night #2 ships this week and the variant cover is made of pure win:

And the dead shall… SWIM AGAIN!

Posted by gennel ruben at October 4, 2009, 1:01 pmThanks, man. Slight problem with that, though. 1. It’s kinda creepy. 2. I am incapable of having friends.
