Mega Masquerade
October 29, 2009This event is being brought to you by the same guys who put the Metro Comic Con together. It’s a whole day thing, from 10AM, when Megamall opens up to 9PM, when the mall closes, at SM Megatrade Hall 2, 5th Floor, Mega B.

Comic of the Week: Thunderbolts #137
October 28, 2009It’s ironic that the reason I picked the Thunderbolts title as the Comic of the Week is party because I loved seeing their butts get whooped. Even more ironic, though, is the largest reason is their guests, who practically took the whole damn book over - Iron Fist and Luke “Power Man” Cage.

Top 5 Characters You Don’t Want to Meet in a Dark Alleyway
October 25, 2009Halloween is almost upon us, and the time of shitting my pants in fear of local non-cable TV programming is near. I used to celebrate Halloween as a kid by rolling up balls of candle wax at cemeteries. Do you know how creepy it is at cemeteries late at night, while someone prays the rosary over a huge PA system? And with all the stories you usually hear at this time of year, it’s easy to need diapers for emergency poop-in-pants situations when your bodily functions give way to fear. This is why I decided to put together a list of 5 of creepiest peeps in all of comicdom you would NOT want to meet in a dark alleyway all alone.

Mind you, this isn’t a list of the scariest mother-effers ever, just a list of those whom I wouldn’t want to meet in an alleyway when it’s dark and I’m all alone. Okay? Let’s get started. (more…)
Best Kiddie Superhero Costumes
October 22, 2009So, we’re, what? Less than 2 weeks away from Halloween? To help you guys pick out what costume you’ll make your offspring endure through the heat and humiliation, I decided to compile some of the best superhero costumes for your kid. Think of them as suggestions on how you can make your child hate you a little more.

Despite what that horribly ugly banner I made says, I’d like to focus on superhero costumes instead of creepy cross-dressing. Also, goddamn, that banner is fucking ugly.
Thing is, year after year, we see a bajillion Spider-Man kids and a bajillion Batman kids and a bajillion Superman kids. We’re fucking sick of it, parents. We want you to give us something cool, so we won’t feel inclined to call your child a homosexual and then threaten him or her with physical harm as soon as you turn your atttention elsewhere.
Here are some suggestions:
- Moon Knight
Well, look at that, some kid actually did it.

Comic of the Week: Batman #691
October 21, 2009Before I get right to it, I wanna let you know that I’m one of those people who want Tim Drake to be Robin in the cool red and black costume, Dick Grayson to be Nightwing, Damien to be retconned right out of fucking existence and Bruce to be Batman again. It’s not because I don’t like change - I think change is good in a the comic book medium - but because a smiling Batman doesn’t sit right with me. Oh, and Bruce is the most gigantic asshole in all of comicdom, and everyone loves gigantic assholes.
That brings me to Batman #691 where in a world with a dead Bruce Wayne, he still manages to be a total dick.

Just Sharing
October 20, 2009I’m just going to share these videos real quick, because one is awesome news and the other is fucking hilarious.
Psylocke is a welcome edition to the MUA2 roster. She was a Wii exclusive, along with Cyclops and Blade, if memory serves me correctly. She’s part of a 5-person DLC pack, which includes Carnage.
UPDATE: This just leaked, guys! (Well, this morning) The 5-pack DLC includes Carnage (we all knew that), but Gamestop says it will also include Cable, Black Panther and Magneto. Dude, fucken’ MAGNETO.
Kubori Kikiam Motion comics. Just watch it.
PTK Member advc8pinoy’s Video Review
October 18, 2009adv8pinoy, a PTK member, keeps a youtube channel with some action figure reviews, apparently. I’ve actually had the pleasure of talking with this guy over the forums, and all I know was that he was a big Marvel Universe buff; I never found out about the videos. My regret is that I didn’t know about this guy’s reviews earlier!
He reviews the videos as a MOC collector would, something most reviewers don’t talk about so much. He gives good feedback about the value of the fig, how he intends to use it, how he wants to display it and stuff like that. The insights are honest and straightforward, which is better than dancing around with fancy words that mean the same damn thing.
I liked his review of the running change variant Iron Fist. Here, lemme show you.
Here’s some more.

3.75" Iron Man 2 Movie Figures
October 16, 2009Ever since I started the 3.75″ armory, I’ve been obsessed with finding as many Iron Man figures as I can. When SDCC came around and showed off the figures for Iron Man 2, a boner immediately emerged as I learned they were of the 3 3/4 scale category. The Extremis armor was THE ULTIMATE SHIT!
Lo and behold, fellow nerds! The first images of the Mark I and Mark II action figures have emerged! I ganked them off Marvelousnews. Check these bad boys out!

Comic of the Week: Daredevil #501
October 13, 2009This week, I was itching to do a comic of the week feature from DC or maybe even IDW, should I find something interesting. Unfortunately, this week just so happened to see the release of the first issue of my favorite character ever under the pen of a new wordsmith and the pencil of a new artist. I really had no choice but to feature this issue instead of anything else.
Daredevil #501 is a new status quo, and one from which Daredevil may never be the same again. And this time, they aren’t kidding.

Collection 2009
October 11, 2009I passed by Collecticon last Saturday for two things- 1. to give Marco Ilao his prize and 2. to see what Collecticon has to offer.

The sucky thing about the whole thing was the wait Marco had to endure. It took me so long to drag my ass through Manila traffic. We were set to meet up at 1PM, and I got there around 2PM. Sorry for the wait, dude and I hope you enjoy the cell. I’m glad he waited though. That officially makes him the very first winner of any Comicology contest ever! There will be more and I hope I get more participation this time.
After taking the pic and giving him his prize, I went over to see what Collecticon had to offer, and to my chagrin, it was nothing new. (more…)
BROMANCE: Superman/Batman Public Enemies
October 9, 2009Before we get on with it, I just want to say I’m sorry that I haven’t been updating as much as I want to because of the new job. Yes, I do like it, and yes I am learning a lot but it eats up a lot of time. It’s just that I get a little guilty not being able to update Comicology as much. Oh, and before we head on over to the rest of the entry, I would like to extend my congratulations to Bearbrick Love for kick our ass and winning the Philippine Blog Awards Hobbies and Recreation Category.
Anyway, let’s get on with the meat. Some time ago, Superman/Batman: Public Enemies came out (of the closet), and I was able to get my grubby little hands on a copy. Here’s my review. Man to man loving was never so muscular. BOW CHIKA BOW WOW!

Okay, it isn’t THAT gay, but you’d be surprised the amount of manlove this DVD has, and by the same token, the comic series, too. This DVD was (loosely) based on, if I’m not mistaken, Superman/Batman #1-6, written by Jeph Loeb (relation to Lisa Loeb unknown, but unlikely) and penciled by Ed McGuinness.

Ultimate Iron Man Collector- Richard Brian Francisco!
October 4, 2009Tony Stark makes you feel, he’s a cool exec with a heart of steel, indeed. With Iron Man’s well stocked armory, he is a collector’s wet dream. The guy’s got, what, over fifty sets of armor? The clothes really do make the man for Tony, as his powers and abilities stem directly from his brain and are translated to whatever piece of armor he’s wearing. Because of this, we’ve gotten a lot of pretty iconic suits of armor, and a bunch of them have gotten action figure treatment..
Because of his versatility and skyrocketing popularity, he’s been a favorite subject for toy makers, be they Toybiz or Hasbro. There are literally dozens upon dozens of figures even before the movie came out. And ever since it did, the number grew exponentially. It takes a special kind of man to ensure a complete armory- a man with real hair on his chest, and not the ones you usually draw on your offspring for when you dress him up as a Mexican. Enter a man named Richard Brian Francisco, or Zapzuu, as he is known over at the PTK forums.

Now, this guy is actually famous over there for having the most complete Iron Man collection out of all the collectors online. I asked for the guy who has the most impressive Iron Man collection and they all collectively pointed to ZapZuu, like he was the grand master of awesomness. Turns out, he actually is. And, he’s here with us today for a short word.

Comicology: So, Mr. ZapZuu, obvious questions first: Before you started your collection, were you already an Iron Man fan? What initially drew you to Iron Man?
ZapZuu: To tell you the truth, at first, I was not a big fan of Iron Man. It all started with The Avengers and eventually my attention was drawn to Iron Man. I was fascinated with his different sets of armor and one more thing that really boosts up my interest is the Extremis story, which I really like, (adi granov =badass!) and since then I’ve been a big fan of Tony Stark.

Marco Ilao Answered the call to Be a Hero
October 1, 2009Remember when I posted that call to volunteer, Be A Hero? I said if you come in a superhero costume to a relief center and you send me pics of your lapse in judgement, you’ll win a prize. Now, those were the rules, right? No super hero costume, no prize. Sadly, this isn’t the first Comicology contest ever conceived. No one really just gave enough of a fuck to join. Much to my suprise, someone sent in his relief effort pics.
This really makes me happy, to be quite honest. This means there is, at least one guy out there, who reads Comicology. I remember having a contest last Christmas for a Skull Candy headset. No one joined. I hate you all, by the way.
For some unknown reason, Marco Ilao, known as flightmarco on PTK (at least, I think that’s him) sent in his pictures from his relief effort.

The emails completely caught me by surprise. Dude sent in 3, with about 10 pics each. I just picked the ones I liked best. No one ever sent me anything before. It took me about 5 minutes figuring out why the fuck anyone would send me pics of a relief effort. I even figured they were from the people who organized the one over at White Space, because I volunteered there last night. Then I saw the name “Marco” and I made the connection between that one line I wrote, which I thought no one was going to take seriously, and the email.
