Collection 2009
October 11, 2009I passed by Collecticon last Saturday for two things- 1. to give Marco Ilao his prize and 2. to see what Collecticon has to offer.

The sucky thing about the whole thing was the wait Marco had to endure. It took me so long to drag my ass through Manila traffic. We were set to meet up at 1PM, and I got there around 2PM. Sorry for the wait, dude and I hope you enjoy the cell. I’m glad he waited though. That officially makes him the very first winner of any Comicology contest ever! There will be more and I hope I get more participation this time.
After taking the pic and giving him his prize, I went over to see what Collecticon had to offer, and to my chagrin, it was nothing new.
Here’s the crowd. Seems to be a lot of people but it was still pretty easy to navigate once you get in the thick of it.

Collecticon focused mostly on the toy collecting aspect, and pretty much everything other conventions play up. Who cares, though? We go there for the deals, right? And if that’s your thing, then Collecticon pretty much had it all- DC, Marvel, Star Wars, vintage stuff, G.I. Joe and those remote controlled cars that fucking drift.
Thing is, we’ve seen all of those at Comic Con, ToyCon, and hell, even TagCom. I just wanna see something new from these events, organizer guys.
Here are a couple pics:

Cap and Iceman collections were cool to see

Marvel Legends and Legendary Heroes BAFs

Here’s something proudly FIlipino-made. There are a ton of talented guys here and they keep coming out with amazing work. That GWB bust is just begging for a dick to get photoshopped in, though.

Case in point- Hulk VS Wolverine. In the background, Jollibee is about to open a can of whoop-ass on Ronald and Grimace.

Ah, the one thing I liked about Collecticon is that they gave toy customizers a venue to show off how they do what they do so well.

Very few people actually paid attention to the stage, though, and people focused more on the merch.

After Collection, I headed over to Druid’s Keep at Magallanes to pick up my reserved stack. I finally hold Daredevil #500 (IT WAS FUCKING BAD ASS) in my hands, although 3 months late. I was supposed to get another variant cover, but my budget ran thin.
That’s okay, though, I gots me the Alex Ross cover and I’m happy. And like I said in Plurk, the feeling of actually physically holding and reading a comic book is one of the best experiences I can afford in this life.

Posted by marco at October 12, 2009, 6:20 pmYeah, after I heard that the December Toyfair in Mega is going to run 5 days this year, I figured I might as well just wait for that.
Just worried that the toy stores may have blown their wad at the Collecticon.

Yeah, I still feel guilty about it, though. And yeah, Blackmarket X has been pushed back indefinitely.
@slangards
Yeah, 5 days. How much steam do you think those guys’ll need? Cosplayers!!! OGC!!!
I don’t think Collecticon was a big deal for the toy sellers. Most of their stock is still intact, methinks.
