Comic of the Week: Daredevil #501
October 13, 2009This week, I was itching to do a comic of the week feature from DC or maybe even IDW, should I find something interesting. Unfortunately, this week just so happened to see the release of the first issue of my favorite character ever under the pen of a new wordsmith and the pencil of a new artist. I really had no choice but to feature this issue instead of anything else.
Daredevil #501 is a new status quo, and one from which Daredevil may never be the same again. And this time, they aren’t kidding.

Daredevil #501
Writer: Andy Diggle
Artist: Roberto de la Torre
When Bendis passed the torch over to Brubaker, Daredevil was in a shitty place to be (dude was in jail), and the new writer was faced with a status quo, which was incredibly difficult to write and continue. Brubaker took the challenge and made it his prison bitch by creating one of the most exciting Daredevil runs I’d experienced in a while. Andy Diggle (The Losers) practically did the same damn thing.

Daredevil #501 not only rekindled my love for the character, but he set it ablaze with glorious invisible white flames. He also lit a fire under the ass of the series- not that it needed it, though. Return of the King, as Brubaker’s swan song for his Daredevil run, picked up slowly but ended with a shocker that would make grown men weep in passionate joy. Hell, I was throwing up the horns and crying like it was my son’s wedding for 15 full minutes after reading Return of the King. The Devil’s Hand, Diggle’s first arc, felt like I had ascended into a higher consciousness. It was just refreshing and exciting; it got my blood going. It was an amazing read.
My only problem with it, though, is the dialogue. Andy Diggle writes fantastic dialogue normally, as he did in Thunderbolts, which was, by far, the best series to come out of Civil War. Some lines were cheesy, to a point that if you read them out of context, you’d go “What the FUCK is he talking about?!” This might be a little spoilery, but “THE HAND IS THAT CAVE!” Lolwut?

I can’t say I don’t miss Alex Maleev’s or Michael Lark’s art, because I seriously do, but Roberto de la Torre’s art has a different twist to it, and it is a refreshing, welcome change. Daredevil is looking beefier and more menacing, which is exactly how I like my Daredevil in the morning. His style is less noir, and more gritty and dirty and dark and depressing. It’s perfect for the Daredevil mood.
I absolutely loved Diggle’s art on Iron Man. Now, if I recall correctly, Roberto de la Torre drew that most brutal fight between Iron Man and Mandarin last year. Imagine what kind of hell he could unleash upon the pages of Daredevil, with all those ninjas, kung fu and spandexed ass kicking. In later issues to come, I hope his art remains consistent.

This arc has me shaking in my bootsies. I haven’t been this excited for a Daredevil arc ever since Daredevil #82, when Bru picked up the book. This week is a good week for Daredevil fans. Where do we turn to, now that Daredevil has crossed a line he never should have? DUN DUN DUN!
I give Daredevil #501 a very astounding 5 out of 5 flying through the air Daredevils!

Follow me on Plurk or Twitter, guys! I’ll probably make a Comicology fan page, too, but maybe when I get a domain for it.

Posted by jeremy scott at March 24, 2011, 6:02 pmReplica watches are available with different functions and features. Some people like luxurious timepieces. Some like Corum watches replica as they like sports. Then different kinds of replica Ebel come into being. What is going to be talked here is the sports VacheronConstantin watches replica. To give you an idea what features of Technomarine replica could be the most important, I made a quick list for you. Resists Water The water resistance is, I would say, the most important feature of any replica Panerai. You do not have to be a diver per se but you still need a water replica Rolex. Even a regular shower can damage your Chopard watches replica. Just choose a suitable level of water resistance in according to what you do. The water resistance choice is huge and goes from about 10 meters up to 500 meters suitable for diving. Models for diving are often also salt resistant. GPS All hikers going to remote places should be considering getting replica Ferrari with GPS. It could save you a lot of trouble when trying to find your way. You may feel like with GPS things are going to be too easy for you… Then get at least fake Ferrari with a built-in digital compass. Weather Factors Handy features that are related to the weather are mainly sunrise and sunset data, thermometer, barometer, altimeter or a altitude memory. Weather related features are really handy in the mountains or under extreme conditions. G-Shock For more extreme sports where your replica Swissarmy watches could suffer from shock damage, the replica UlysseNardin watches are perfect Features Suitable For Running Running is a very special sport when it comes to Jacob&Co watches replica. For running you will need mainly heart rate monitor and a good quality JaegerLeCoultre watches fake and timer. replica D&G Your experience of having fake MontBlanc can be very much coloured by the right choice of Parmigiani watches fake. It probably is wiser to first make your choice based on features and then get the ideal band later. replica Hublot would be my choice, as I don’t like a sweaty wrist. I would go for Longines watches fake. Titanium is known for great strength and durability. It’s also very light. Brand The brand of replica Oris decides a lot. Some of the MontBlanc replica are known only by the Piaget watches fake. Although not always, a great brand often does mean top quality and durability. There are some famous sports timepieces from these world famous brands such as Timex, Omega etc.
