Character of the Year

December 30, 2009

2009 was a year of tragedies, in real life and in the mythos of escape we call comic books. And out of those fictional tragedies emerged a team that was interesting, they had their faces drawn on almost every major book from that publisher. And the leader of that team was a man who was so intriguing, I was glued to his every action and eagerly awaited every major consequence.

I present to you the Comicology Character of 2009 - NORMAN OSBORN!

http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/2070/banner2009.jpg

His emergence from being a burried Spider-Man villain to the main big baddie of MU really came from way out far left field. As Secret Invasion was ending, rumors were swirling about and the solicits did show that Normie was at the top of the food chain, but it was just hard to believe. I chose to be pessimistic and be pleasantly surprised if things turned out okay. I’m happy it turned out the way it turned out. Thank you, Mr. Bendis.

Comic of the Week: Dark Avengers: Ares #3

December 27, 2009

Everyone was talking about Blackest Night #6 because it was a great title. I agree. I think it was phenomenal. However, there was this other title that just really got to me. It could be because Ares, the god of war, has been skyrocketing in popularity since the days of the Iron Man-led Mighty Avengers and that I think he’s a great character. It could also be because I’ve been playing a lot of Modern Warfare 2 lately. Either way, this week’s comic of the week is Ares #3.

Ares #3 is a fantastic mixture of elements of brotherhood, drama, and a ton of badassery.

Christmas Haul

December 26, 2009

This is the first year since I started action figure collecting that I didn’t receive an action figure or get one for myself. This year, though, the girlfriend got me the most amazing gifts EVER IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND!

Check it out.

http://img682.imageshack.us/img682/4741/img3033f.jpg

Green Lantern hoodie! All those cold nights in the office are now a thing of the past!

It fits me well, I think. The material is really thick, so it’s not something you could wear every day in this country. Well, unless you work in a server room, in which case, this might not be enough. The GL logo looks to be printed on with very thick rubberized paint. Dunno how well that’ll hold after washing.

Other designs include the Batman and Superman logos, which both really weren’t that nice.

A COMICOLOGY SHIRT! BOOYAH!

And here I am looking like a mongoloid with the Comicology shirt on.

Operation: Comicology Christmas - Success!

December 25, 2009

Thanks to the tactical planning and support of the girlfriend, the financial support of the bidders (Peter Juan, Joel Ramos), the donations of a few generous souls (Larry Cayco, and the girlfriend’s family friend whose name I will edit in later) and the cooperation of a few security guards around Makati, Operation: Comicology Christmas was successful.

We were able to give away:

46 Jollibee Chicken/Spaghetti meals with a soft drink
30 pieces of Jollibee Chicken and rice and 30 zest-o’s
50 loot bags with assorted goodies

http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/2301/img3001g.jpg

http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/9184/img3002.jpg

It took us barely 2 hours to give away the food to street kids and some people living off the streets.

On my way to my own family for our little Christmas celebration, though, I saw more homeless people. I want to do this again, but I’m going to need more people. I hope that when this is launched again, I can get more people to join in and help out.

Again, thanks to everyone. Know that you gave a few people a better Christmas than they would have otherwise experienced.

Comic of the Week: G.I. Joe #13

December 21, 2009

I grew up in the 80’s. G.I. Joe, to me, will always be about red and blue lasers, people who can’t successfuly hit anything smaller than a tank, and a dude with a towel over his face named Cobra Commander. The comics, as a universe all to itself, shows the Joes in a different light. The comic universe is what I primarily consider canon, though.

Iron Man 2 Trailer

December 17, 2009

I’ve been holding back this erection all morning. The Iron Man 2 trailer is out! I received my newsletter from Marvel this morning and when I opened it up, lo and behold, a link to the official trailer! Unfortunately, it’s not on YouTube yet, so I don’t think I can embed it just yet.

Here’s a link to the official Marvel page.

And it’s awesome because we get a glimpse of Iron Man’s Mark V suit, with the trapezoid chest piece. I dunno how the movie is going to explain that. Oh, and as I expected, I hated seeing Cheadle in the War Machine suit.

http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/2549/screenshoton.jpg

Ms. Scarlet Johansson’s got some moves! I hope she keeps that up for the entire film. I don’t wanna see no flimsy ass kick to be oversold by generic bad guy. Oh, and tits.

We get a quick glimpse of  Nicky Fury. Here’s to hoping he gets a bigger role. We see more of that fantastic Tony/Pepper dynamic, too.

Seems like this is following an Armor Wars storyline, what with Whiplash using the same tech as Tony. Oh, and Justin Hammer is most likely responsible for those robots WM and IM fight off at the end of the trailer.

That said, it looks like this’ll be fucking AWESOME!

Epic Marvel Disney Mash-up

The Christmas Plan

December 14, 2009

The auction for the animation cells will run until Friday, Dec. 18, 2009. If you’re not aware of it yet, let me enlighten thee. See, Christmas has always been a time of excesses, which quite honestly, I find quite troublesome. I am disturbed by the fact that seeing people spend large amounts of money on food and gifts, celebrating a pagan-originated Christian holiday, while the poor go on hungry, barely bothers me.

http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/6125/11251080906streetkids.jpg

I am not a rich man, but I can afford quite a few luxuries here and there. The poor people I see on the streets can’t even afford a Christmas meal. I’m getting fat while they treat Christmas as just another night that passes by. I figured, this year, instead of giving away the animation cells, I would auction them off and feed a few street kids and families this Christmas.

So far, the bids are:

P1500 for Spidey and the Spidey suit in the garbage can (Peter Juan)

P500 for Spider-Man VS Vulture (Joel Ramos)

A Little Taste of Renaissance

December 9, 2009

Fuck yes. Wilce Portacio, Philip Tan and Rain Beredo combine the dripping excess awesome from the cosmos, compressed it into a sliver, injected it into a pen and came up with this:

Comic of the Week: Dark Avengers Annual #1

December 8, 2009

Since last week was hectic as all fuck, I wasn’t able to post anything at all. That means I wasn’t able to put up my comic of the week. This week, I’ve got a special treat for myself (since I know most of you guys don’t give a fuck about the weekly comic thing), I plan to do two.

I wanted to take a quick peek at Dark Avengers Annual #1 for two good reasons- Noh-Varr and Chris Bachalo.

Illidan Stormrage

December 6, 2009

A fried of mine asked me to post this two or so weeks ago, but I wasn’t able to get around to doing it because I’ve been so goddamned busy with work. I didn’t even have time to make the Comic of the Week last week. There wasn’t much to say about last week’s stack, though.

Anyway, he’s selling this baby.

http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/2157/dsc00546r.jpg

DC Warcraft Figures, Illidan Stormrage. The name alone invokes images of heavy metal eroticism and awesomeness. If you want details on this guy, you can check out this link

http://img704.imageshack.us/img704/6471/dsc00548u.jpg

Check out that beast of pure, unadulterated slick viscious sexyness. It is as epic as its name, which almost rivals that of the three wolf moon shirt.

http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/8109/dsc00547nq.jpg

He’s selling it for a mere P900.00. He says other people sell it for P1200 or so, so getting from him is quite the deal. You can get in touch with him 0917-840-22-33 and 0923-240-00-15 for inquiries about the toy and some sexual favors.
