The Christmas Plan

The auction for the animation cells will run until Friday, Dec. 18, 2009. If you’re not aware of it yet, let me enlighten thee. See, Christmas has always been a time of excesses, which quite honestly, I find quite troublesome. I am disturbed by the fact that seeing people spend large amounts of money on food and gifts, celebrating a pagan-originated Christian holiday, while the poor go on hungry, barely bothers me.

I am not a rich man, but I can afford quite a few luxuries here and there. The poor people I see on the streets can’t even afford a Christmas meal. I’m getting fat while they treat Christmas as just another night that passes by. I figured, this year, instead of giving away the animation cells, I would auction them off and feed a few street kids and families this Christmas.

So far, the bids are:

P1500 for Spidey and the Spidey suit in the garbage can (Peter Juan)

P500 for Spider-Man VS Vulture (Joel Ramos)

Hilarion said he would buy my Iron Monger for P1000, and all the money will go into the fund. I will match the bid for the Spidey cell, and Mel will match the bid for the second. That gives us a total budget of P5000.00.

The plan put together by Mel and myself is to buy the 48 pieces of the P100 Jollibee meal, which includes a piece of Chicken Joy, some spaghetti and a soft drink. The 200 pesos left over will go to a rice fund, so we can give out some rice, too. And if we can squeeze a little bit more, we’ll add some dessert.

Chicken Joy is something they really can’t afford on a regular basis, so this should be a special treat for them. I wanted to give them some luxury on Christmas. Besides, who doesn’t love Chicken Joy, right?

This is a call to anyone who would like to volunteer on the 24th, before midnight, of course. We’ll just go around, distributing this to kids and families we see. It won’t take long. Oh, and I hope to get the payment for the animation cells before the 23rd, hopefully, so I have spending money.

I wonder if it is better to give out the mcsavers meal (rice, chicken and drinks) which costs 50 pesos only. You can squeeze in desserts and give out much more. Just a suggestion.

aly actually has a good idea mr.bim.:D you might even be able to give them food to take home too…though i think the kids will enjoy the jollibee meal more..

I think I’ll have a hard time giving out too many meals. I’d say about 50 meals should be good enough.

I hope other people give out meals, too, on that day so other kids get to eat a special meal, too.
