Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 Character Analysis Part 2

February 2, 2010

Here we are with our second installment of the character line-up analysis for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. We finished with Spider-Man in the last one, and we continue with one of his nemises, Venom.

Venom is, truth be told, is like the leg bones on a whale - quite fucking useless. He attempts to be a tank with his Leaping Feast attack with auto-heal, but his HP is still a bit low and his attacks are mediocre, at best. His range is also nothing to excited about either. He’s good as mid-range character, maybe, but still doesn’t shine well in that department either. His melee is slow, on top of all that. 1.5 out of 5. Best thing about him is his alt costume.

Nick Fury is the guy you get to use only on Legendary + because you unlock him only after playing through the game. Because he’s the last unlocked character, he has to be something special, yes? I won’t spoil which “version” of Nick you’ll be playing, but he is quite the monster.  All his attacks are (say this ala Jack Black in Master Exploder) fucking… POWAAAHFULLL!!! 5 out of 5. Insane.

I’m sandwiching Fury between two of Spidey’s greatest enemies. The Green Goblin could easily be considered Spidey’s greatest foe. He is what Joker is to Batman, Red Skull to Captain America, whiskey to Tony Stark. And he’s a pretty damn fun character to use. Okay, he isn’t great, because his powers are slow and his melee is annoyingly weak. But get him on a glider, you can mow down thugs in minutes. His regular attack in the air becomes a hail of bullets, which slices through mobs. You have to build up his focus, though, because stamina doesn’t refill while mid-air. 3 out of 5.

Storm is as powerful as you would expect. She’s also very fun to play as she’s got some of the most unique attacks of the entire roster. She has a single target attack with Lighting Strike, which hits a few times. The rest of her attacks are all area of effect, and they’re great for clearing out crowds or blowing them the fuck away, which is awesome. She’s a bit slow, though, and her powers come out a little too slow for my taste. Still, the Gale Force is amazing to use, because it’s fun to watch soldiers rag-doll meters away from you. 4 out of 5.

Fellow X-Man and natural force, Iceman is up next. He, too, is quite an amusing character to use. He’s got a high focus stat so building this up even further can let you spam his cool powers. For one thing, he has one of the fastest travelling powers with his ice slide. It beats flying, weirdly enough. His Freeze Beam looks cool and freezes enemies in their tracks. The Ice Pillar is a great crowd controller, though probably not as fun to use as fiery counterpart. Drake gets a 4 out of 5, too, because of a decent body and striking score.

Closing out this installation of the character analysis is the Human Torch. Fiery melee makes him formidable up close, but with his super crowd raping powers, it makes him a joy to use. His stupid Fireball Barrage looks cool but is horrible, though, so don’t build that up. Build up his Flame Thrower and Fire Pillar. The Fire Pillar takes out multiple targets even though the description limits it to just a few. Flame Thrower is a destructive power, sends bosses who are not immune to fire to their fiery demise. If they are, then you’re kinda fucked. Since HT has a high fusion stat, fusion attacks gets a nice damage boost. 4.5 out of 5.

And there you have it, guys. Check out part 3 sometime when I feel like it. Later, folks.
