Marvel Universe Luke Cage Review

The Marvel Universe line has seen some really shitty figures, and along with that, less than stellar reviews for the figures. Ever since the X-Men Origins: Wolverine figures came out, the 3.75″ line has been steadily improving. They said they had learned their lesson - they’ll never make massively thin Iron Man figs, they’ve retired the “Daredevil body,” and they’ve shrunk Punisher’s head. With all those big leaps in quality, no other figure exemplifies it more than Luke Cage.

The Hammer Files 3.75″ Marvel Universe Luke Cage figure absolutely owns hard!

The packaging does not do justice to this figure at all, although it does show the goodies he comes with. I like that he has unique accessories. He doesn’t come with retooled flame things or overused guns. I guess it’s because Luke Cage has become kind of a big deal lately and because those things wouldn’t make one iota of sense with the guy.

This is him all decked out with all his shit. I don’t have him displayed like this, though. He looks more like Luke Cage without the skull cap and without the steel bar. That’d look cool as a prop for dioramas though.

The sculpt on this figure is just really good. It’s nothing spectacular or anything, like the Extremis Iron Man or the little details on Hawkeye’s costume, but Cage’s sculpt does the job. The chains on his bling are especially impressive.

The paint on this figure is really clean and the paint job is fantastic, unlike previous MU figures. This figure seems to have wash on his arms and his pants, which looks freaking cool.

My biggest gripe with this figure is the poseability. He’s limited to too few poses though he has a good number of articulations. There are enough joints, it’s just that hip joints don’t go as far as I would like. However, this is Luke Cage; seeing him do splits would be ridiculous.

If you are lucky enough to chance upon an MU Luke Cage, grab it. Don’t let others take it away from you. And trust me, they will try. They will try.
