Thor: The Video Game

July 29, 2010

‘m happy that The Son of Asgard FINALLY has a video game all to his own. Hell, he was shafted in a bunch of games in the past so it’s really cool to see him get his own title, which will go along with his movie.

Here’s my problem with it.

It’s a movie-based video game. Apart from, let’s say, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Spider-Man 2, there really hasn’t been a movie-based game worthy of praise. None of them can hold a candle to non-game related franchise games such as Batman: Arkham Asylum or Marvel Ultimate Alliance. I almost expect this one to suck ass, even though I haven’t seen gameplay video.

It is SEGA-made. Remember the clustershitfuck that is Iron Man 2: The Video Game? Yeah. You know, I can’t even find it for sale second hand. That’s right, it’s so shitty, no one bothered to buy it. Iron Man: The Video Game won IGN’s (if I’m not mistaken) award for Worst Video Game Everyone Played.

Ah well. Here’s to hoping for the best.

Blue Beetle TV Series First Look

I saw this on CBR a few hours ago. Click that link to see all the details. Here’s the teaser:

You know why I’m happy about this? First off, this Blue Beetle is Hispanic, just like the comic Blue Beetle, Jaime Reyes. And since it isn’t as gay as fucking Smallville, I can breathe easy. Hear me as I let out a sigh of relief.

*sigh of relief*

DC Universe Online News

If you aren’t living under a massive rock under in the mountains of probably China, then chances are you’ve seen the latest DCUO trailer released during the San Diego Comic Con. Now, we throw the words “awesome” and “epic” around a lot that I’m quite afraid that those words will start to lose their true meaning. However, there are only two in the entire English vocabulary that could attempt to possibly describe the trailer in a way that’ll completely describe it in all its glory. And those two words are “AWESOME” and “EPIC.”

If that isn’t AWESOME and EPIC enough for you, then you, sir, are probably Chuck Norris. I saw this two days ago and my erection still hasn’t gone down. Seriously. I’m, like, having it checked by a doctor next week. I should also probably stop watching the trailer.

Here are a few key facts of the game.

- You have to create your own superhero

Unfortunately, you can’t go around as Batman or Green Lantern or Green Arrow or Flash or Superman. Hell, you can’t even go around as someone as bleakly obscure as fucken’ Automan. Existing DC characters will be NPCs (non-playable characters, for you non-nerds out there.)

http://i.imgur.com/FpJBs.jpg
Be prepared to see a lot of guys like this. I call him “IMPREGNATOR.”

I don’t know what measures Sony will take to ensure that no one creates some weird Batman lookalike, give him firearms and call him BatmanPwnzJ00LOLZ . I guess if the character creation tool is as robust as, let’s say, Champions Online, it wouldn’t be entirely impossible to do so. I can foresee a bajillion Batman inspired characters with weird ass powers.

Shield and Helmet

July 26, 2010

The news flowing from the San Diego Comic Con is just intense. It’s like this every damn year, and I can barely keep up with everything. Hasbro’s got some kick ass toys coming out soon, DC Universe MMO is going to feature the most bad-ass characters in the printed comics and we saw Street Fighter X Tekken. MIND OFFICIALLY BLOWN.

It seriously does feel like the most important few days a year in geekdom. You can’t really deny that since this is the one time most media outlets pretend to give a crap about us comic book geeks. Ah, but then again, Marvel has given them a reason to care - their movies have been off the chain amazing!

Recently, we’ve been speculating about Thor’s helmet since none of the shots show him with the winged helm on. A couple days ago, Marvel finally revealed the helmets of Loki, Odin and Thor! Have a looksee:

Loki’s helmet is epic, no doubt about that. Odin’s looks okay, too. Thor’s does justice to THE Thor’s helm, but it’s a bit too metallic, methinks. It kinda reminds me of Warlord’s helmet.

http://www.superherotimes.com/newsarchive/warNew-12.jpg

But I guess giving the helmet feathery wings would make it look extremely gay. Moving on.

I’m not sure when Marvel revealed Cap’s shield, but here, have a looksee.

It’s so beautiful. *sheds a single tear* They kept it as close as to the original as you can possibly get. Fucking awesome.

Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions Reveal I AM DISAPPOINT!

July 23, 2010

After much speculation on which would be the fourth Spider-Man Universe to be featured in the game Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, we finally got our answer today at the San Diego Comic Con.

Some thought it would be Marvel Zombies Spider-Man and that would make a ton of sense, really. Totally different playstyle and artistic direction. Others figured it would be the 1602 Spider-Man, which would totally turn this game on its head, introducing a radical change in the playstyle.

It turns out, my first guess was right all along - it’s the Ultimate Universe. Here’s the trailer.

Now since 616 Spidey and Ultimate Spidey have similar powers and playstyles (identical, actually), the developers put the Symbiote suit in with Ultimate, just to change the gameplay a little bit.

I dunno, it seems like such a safe play. I would’ve wanted to see something a bit more radical, you know? Oh well, here’s to hoping for the best!

Thor and Captain America Concept Art

In my experience, concept art has never really fully conveyed the true feel of a movie. I mean, the Iron Man concept art made it look like a gritty, 300-esque war epic. Obviously, it wasn’t that. It was much cooler. So, why am I wetting my shorts over the Thor and Captain America concept art? Well, check em’ out. Click them to see them bigger.

Not only are they unbelievably pretty, they show elements of the movie. We can analyze from there. Let’s start with Thor.

Guess Who?

July 18, 2010

The Cool Toy Review forums showed these teaser images of Marvel Universe figures, and they say to wait 4 days before they’re revealed.  Some of them are pretty easy to guess, but some just boggle the mind. Check them out.

This, quite obviously, is the Amazing Bagman - Spider-man who lost his mask and had to wear a Fantastic Four uniform and a paper bag over his head.

First Look at Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern

July 16, 2010

I ganked this picture from Comic Book Movie, a pretty reliable resource on all panel-to-celluloid media. I guess it’s a pretty safe bet that this first look will be pretty much what’ll be in the movie.

http://i.imgur.com/NEEiI.jpg

HOLY MERCIFUL HEAVEN ABOVE!!!!!!!! WHAT THE HELL IS THAT THING?! KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!!!!!

It’s amazing. I didn’t think it was possible to fuck up one of the simplest yet coolest looking costumes in the history of comic books. I sincerely can’t even begin to imagine how the FLYING FUCK they ended up with this. Did some bitch ass designer think the original suit didn’t have enough… VEINS?! FUCK YOU, HOLLYWOOD!

http://i.imgur.com/G9T9a.jpg
HOW HARD IS THAT TO NOT FUCK UP!?

Okay, okay, okay. Maybe they thought the costume was too dorky and had to modernize it a bit. Okay, I get that. Let’s see what a properly modernized Green Lantern suit looks like.

http://i.imgur.com/XL4AL.jpg

That’s from Green Lantern: First Flight. See? No white gloves, which some people might not like so much, and no bathing suit. It’s not the original, but it’s good enough. I wouldn’t mind seeing a live action movie with that costume.

http://i.imgur.com/xGSgD.jpg

This is a screencap from a fan-made Green Lantern film trailer with Nathan Fillon as Hal Jordan. Check this out - faithful to the comic book almost 100% except for the seams yet it looks really GOOD. How could you fuck up a costume as simple as that?!

Yes, I know. I’ll still watch the fuck out of it the same way I still watched the fuck out of X-Men. See, I watched the hell out of Iron Man, too. Guess which movie I liked better?

Comic of the Week: Scarlet #1

July 11, 2010

Brian Michael Bendis did to Daredevil what people thought only Frank Miller could do - make DD the hottest character title on the shelves because of awesomeness. He did so for a few HC volumes. Why, then, does Bendispeak piss me off profoundly on other titles, like majority of his Avengers. I hate it when he makes everyone do comedic banter while fighting on all his damn team books. Can any of you kids tell me why that happens? How Bendis can be this god of awesome one minute and seem like a newbie the next?

I think it’s the type of book he writes. There’s a certain style that suits him incredibly well. To prove this to you, I would like to present you with our Comic of the Week - Scarlet #1

Shadowland #01

July 8, 2010

You know Shadowland #1, the kickoff issue of that series that’ll make Daredevil relevant to the main Marvel Universe once again, goes on sale on my birthday, right? Today, July 8 - Shadowland hits stands. It’s like Marvel said “Hey, it’s Bim’s birthday. Let’s release Shadowland #1 then to make that day even more awesome.”

http://i.imgur.com/aH1m5.jpg

And they were right, today was awesome. And the icing on the cake? A Shadowland #1 music video.

You know the last music video they released was for the Astonshing X-Men Motion Comic. Cool beans.

Birthday Wishlist 2010

July 5, 2010

The Bim is getting older and to celebrate, you are all required to pay homage to me by bringing The Great One (that’s me, by the way) tributes of gaming, comics and other suitable items. Or else, fear my horrible wrath!

This year’s check list is pretty straightforward. I’m turning 27, and that’s a pretty big number, I think and my responsibilities are catching up with me so I’m taking it easy on the comic books, games and geekdoms. Gotta put my priorities in order, yeah? The wishlist is as follows:

Transformers: War for Cybertron

God of War III

http://i.imgur.com/6M2nI.jpg

God of War Collection

http://i.imgur.com/SlUY9.jpg

Daredevil statue

I actually want the one in Greenhills, going for P7k, but any Daredevil statue will do.

Khaki pants

See? Getting my priorities in order.

Awesome boxer shorts

Daredevil HC Vol. 2

I don’t have this yet. I would like to have it, please. Thanks.

Marvel Select Daredevil

I don’t have it so I want it. GIVE ME!!!

Dualshock 3 PS3 controller, a red one please.

http://i.imgur.com/Zu3ng.jpg

A shiny blue one would work just as well, folks.

A Wii Motion Plus or alternatively, two more Wiimotes.

http://i.imgur.com/UidNC.jpg

A paid Sendspace account

Marvel shirts

http://i.imgur.com/aafyt.jpg

That’s right, my minions. Those are my wishes. Normally, I get approximately 0% of my list every time, so I don’t expect any of these items to magically appear before me on July the 8th. I hope someone gets me those boxer shorts, though.

Bob, Agent of Hydra: Nearly Complete

July 4, 2010

Yesterday, I posted a pic with a work-in-progress Bob, Agent of Hydra. It was cool then, and it gets even cooler upon completion. Here he is, almost at 100% completion.

http://i.imgur.com/j4kcr.jpg

This custom figure wouldn’t be possible without the talent and awesomesauce of Mr. Miko Tizon, whose birthday happens to be today. So, happy birthday, man!

And yes, that is Deadpool in a dress.

Bob Update: Paint

July 3, 2010

I am commissioning Miko Matsing, a fantastic action figure customizer, to make me a 3.75″ Bob, Agent of Hydra. Bob will go perfect with my Deadpool!

Miko sends me updates every now and again to see how the little guy is coming along. Today, I got tagged in a photo.

http://i.imgur.com/zhzE8.jpg

The paint is coming along swimmingly! It’s clean, too, as far as I can see. It’s cool to see comic book accurate colors on him.  I’ll post more updates on Bob soon enough! For now, though, Bob is shaping up to be quite an awesome fig.

Good job, Miko. I love how he’s turning out. Also, did you know this is my first commissioned figure? You popped my customization cherry.

Thomas Wilson of Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions

July 2, 2010

Machinima interviews Thomas Wilson, the creative director of Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.

He basically says there are four dimensions and due to the nature of each dimension in the comics, there will also be four different art styles and four different play styles. That’s actually quite exciting.

There are some games with brilliant concepts, but the execution kinda falls short. Let’s hope it doesn’t become gimicky.

Thomas also mentions that there will be 12 levels. With 4 dimensions, you only get 3 levels per dimension? That’s… weak. He does say there will be 12 bosses, which is pretty cool, especially if you get to fight with each boss differently. If you do the same thing over and over, it doesn’t matter who you’re fighting, really.

Despite my doubts about the title, i’m still pretty excited. I was one of the few people who enjoyed the shit out of Web of Shadows. Still, I’m not expecting it to blow Batman: Arkham Asylum out of the water. I’m not even expecting it to be as good as Spider-Man 2. However, I will choose to be optimistic about this title. There’s still one dimension still left unknown anyway. Maybe that’ll be one hell of an announcement.

Bob, Agent of Hydra: Custom by Miko

July 1, 2010

Remember the Luke Cage contest I ran three weeks ago? This dude named Miko Tizon, AKA Miko Matsing, joined the contest. I had to add him up on Facebook. Then lo and behold, on his stream, I found awesome customized figures! They were so full of awesome. Check some of them out.
